A: Yes, if a drafted player stays in college until his class graduates, he becomes an unrestricted free agent on Aug. 15 of that year. This could make more players stay in college.
As we know, Skinner is staying for a fourth year at DU, where he'll be the captain of his team and finish his degree. Now, we've got to sign him before Aug 15, 2006 - we won't have his rights if we don't.
No real big shakeup, as I figure we were gonna sign him anyways. Just a little bit more added urgency.
What's the point of drafting any US player after the third round or so now? Outside of the bluechip guys taken high in the draft, almost every college player plays his full 4 years. Absolutely no incentive at all for these guys to sign with the team that drafted them now. Retarded.
Luckily Skinner is from Manitoba so it'll be easier to sign him after his senior year is done and get him to play for the Moose at the end of the year. He also seems like a good kid, and I don't think Nonis will have a problem signing him. But yeah, it seems like a stupid rule.
