Best of the WHL

A poll they did for the WHL Eastern (http://luberslounge.blogspot.com/201...t-results.html) and Western (http://www.tri-cityherald.com/2011/0...west-2011.html) conference.

The poll was done among players, management/coaches and broadcasters.

Best Defensive Defenceman?

1) Teighan Zahn - Saskatoon
2) Brayden McNabb - Kootenay
3) Alex Petrovic - Red Deer

Best Skater

Tyler Johnson, Spokane • 61.5%
Johnson breaks a three-year stranglehold on category by Seattle players.

Also
Tyson Barrie, Kelowna . . . . 51.2%
Kevin Sundher, Chilliwack . . . . 19.2%
Ryan Johansen, Portland . . . . 16.7%
Brenden Dillon, Seattle . . . . 15.6%
Ryan Murray, Everett . . . . 15.5%
Surprised, Sundher is that good of a skater. Disappointed, Pysyk didn't make it onto one of the lists.

Will he still be eligible?

I know he's AHL eligible.

Brayden McNabb is beastly. With one more goal, he'll own every Kootenay single season scoring by a d-man record. I like collecting the junior jerseys and I'm definitely considering getting a Kootenay jersey.

When we drafted Mccnabb in 09' I thought he was a good pick, was going to turn into a solid bottem pairing dman who can give us some grit.

But he is just a beast in the WHL right now and everytime I hear about him it's something positive.

He should be a solid player for Buffalo after a season or two in Portland.

The upside is exciting. Will be interesting to see how he does next year. I assume he'll be in Portland, no?

Yes, he has to be unless the Sabres want to burn a year of his contract.
He has another year of WHL eligibility but must be signed to an NHL contract by June 1st.
Even if he went back to the WHL, the contract would not slide because that rule on applies to 18 and 19 year old player contracts.
Because it wouldn't slide, it'd be burning a year off of his contract even if he didn't play a professional game.

So tl;dr, what I'm basically saying is, yes, he will be in Portland.

It's a great thing to see but keep in mind Daniel Paille used to dominate these polls in the OHL as well.

Yeah, but for those (like me) who aren't able to watch these guys those polls are interesting, because other than scouting reports/WJC I don't know anything about them. E.g. I didn't know Foligno had that hard of a shot or that Sundher was such a good skater.

Btw, regarding Paille, why did he have that big of a drop off after his OHL season? He went from 80p/59g to 29p/79g in the AHL. What was it that made him so good in juniors? Information appreciated.

I think if Marcus winds up being a Paille, that's a great job from him...where was he drafted? 4th round?
