1st round of the playoffs: Can we get the Red Wings?

I'm completely convinced that, should we be matched with the Red Wings, we'll sweep them. Aside from that one fluke game, we've handled them very well.

Who's with me?

I was just thinking about this, but came to the opposite (and perhaps irrational) conclusion--I don't want to meet them at all. On the other hand, if the Kings did have to play them, I think the first round would be best.

Not me. Those guy know how to turn it up 3 notches when the playoffs start.

I would like to finish 3 or 6.

3 gets us a favorable matchup in the 1st round.

6 seed gets us a Pacific Division opponent in all likelihood.

7 or 8 gets Vancouver or Detroit. 4 or 5 probably gets us Chicago.

We wouldn't sweep them, but I would like to see the Kings play them.

This.

We may 2 - 0 in Detroit, but the Wings have out played the Kings for significant portions of both of those games.

Yeah, nobody should be hoping we get the Wings in the playoffs. Just the same, I'm not scared to face the Wings this year. Last year? Different story.

No thank you. Of the current top 4, I prefer San Jose.

The Kings have won 5 of their last 6 vs. Detroit. Who wouldn't want a team that the Kings have beaten consistently as a playoff match-up?

Detroit stopped being scary a long time ago... except in some Kings fans heads apparently.

Winning 5 of 6 regular season games against Detroit is one thing (I'm not afraid of the Wings anymore) but you know as well as I do that Detroit is a totally different beast in the playoffs. And a very experienced beast at that.

One step at a time.

First make the playoffs then.....next step
We are far from "made it" yet.

I'd rather play San Jose

I think Detroit is going to end up the #4 seed. They are just not playing very good hockey right now. Still, I'm not sure I want to face Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom in a playoff series.

they went to the Conference Finals four years ago, won the Stanley Cup three years ago, lost in the Finals two years ago and had a second round meltdown against San Jose in what was Howard's first year as the number one in net last year...

they will remain a dangerous and scary team until they are told otherwise.

Detroit is NOT a team the Kings want to face in the first round... that is a matchup Chicago or Phoenix wants.

I like the OP very much but I hate this thread. It has bad karma written all over it. For that reason alone, Tony or Telos should lock it...or better yet, nuke it.

The regular season and the playoff Red Wings are different.

Don't underestimate them.
They call it an off year when they reach the conference semi final

God no. There were significant portions of those wins that the Wings dominated.

Nobody should wish to play Detroit in the playoffs. They are filled with playoff veterans, maybe they lose focus from time to time during the regular season, but they will bring their "A" game in the playoffs.

Dallas would be nice to play in the first round, I don't think they have the defense to win in the playoffs.
