I was just thinking about this, but came to the opposite (and perhaps irrational) conclusion--I don't want to meet them at all. On the other hand, if the Kings did have to play them, I think the first round would be best.
The Kings have won 5 of their last 6 vs. Detroit. Who wouldn't want a team that the Kings have beaten consistently as a playoff match-up?
Detroit stopped being scary a long time ago... except in some Kings fans heads apparently.
Winning 5 of 6 regular season games against Detroit is one thing (I'm not afraid of the Wings anymore) but you know as well as I do that Detroit is a totally different beast in the playoffs. And a very experienced beast at that.
they went to the Conference Finals four years ago, won the Stanley Cup three years ago, lost in the Finals two years ago and had a second round meltdown against San Jose in what was Howard's first year as the number one in net last year...
they will remain a dangerous and scary team until they are told otherwise.
Detroit is NOT a team the Kings want to face in the first round... that is a matchup Chicago or Phoenix wants.
Nobody should wish to play Detroit in the playoffs. They are filled with playoff veterans, maybe they lose focus from time to time during the regular season, but they will bring their "A" game in the playoffs.
Dallas would be nice to play in the first round, I don't think they have the defense to win in the playoffs.
