Yes, and '94. It got worse as time went on. Going from great to gonads is a tough trick to pull, but 100% Toronto boy Healy manages to be anti-Islander every step and it's a shame, but he's earned his rep.

You DO realize that it was the owners who locked the players out and canceled the season right?

I'd wager that is why it was called a LOCK OUT not a strike.

I listened to "Heals" today on HNiC. He said how disappointed he was that the Maple Leafs didn't win last night. How a) Islanders are the 2nd worst team in the east b) the Islanders home record is so poor.

Both facts.

What he failed to leave out was how the Islanders have the 2nd best record in the east over the past THREE MONTHS.

It'd be nice for an "analyst" or "expert" to have more facts.

How is that possible? They never played together. Battlin' Billy retired the year before we signed Healy from the Kings.

looked up Healy's stats, crazy league back in late 80's early 90's. 88-89 Kings his goals against was 4.37 and save % was .865 but he won 25 games

Late 80's / early 90's was some awesome hockey.

Then Jacques Lemaire and the New Jersey Devils came along and single-handedly ruined the game.

... and dats da fact jack.

IceAce:

he said yesterday that Billy Smith was his goaltending coach on the Island.

He went on to tell a story of his first exhibition game against the Penguins (in an Isles uniform). They lost in overtime on a 2-on-1 goal (jagr and lemiuex). an 18 year old Denis Vaske was supposed to be covering the guy with the puck (jagr) and vaske the open man (lemieux).

Vaske covered the wrong man, and the Isles lose. After the game Smith approached Healey and berated him. Screaming at him "if you think that the puck ISN'T going to the best player in the NHL, you're gonna have a short career".

It was a fun story. I enjoy HNiC hearing old Isles stories.

Battlin Billy was the Isles Goalie coach during his first year here.

The story Heals always mentions is...

His first game with the Isles it was a pre-season game against the Pens.

Game goes to overtime and it's a 2 on 1. Jagr and Lemieux.

Jagr has the puck. Healy takes the puck carrier.

A young Vaske is the DMAN and is supposed to take Lemieux, but doesn't.

Jagr passes to Lemieux and the Pens win.

Healy feels good about his performance, and that it wasn't his fault they lost until he goes back to the dressing room where Smith rips him a new one and says...

"If you think a rookie is not going to pass to the 2nd best player in the League then you better get your head out of your *ss!!"

or "the short career" that Amorican quotes (Heals has told the story several times and the ending seems to change a bit, but you get the point).

What he said, a little more accurately than what I typed.

The Isles gave Smith a job as goaltending coach following his retirement.

I think Healey says things just to agree with the "in" crowd. If the Islanders start off the season next year on fire, and everybody is going GAGA over them, I'm SURE he'll be with Flatley on the radio raving about how great they are.

He obviously says things without knowing what's what.
