Well the Sabres only play Ottawa three times before Jan 1 (all by Nov 12) so we'll only get three chances to pile on Dom. And maybe that's stretching it.

i agree. given his recent injury problems, we might see more Prusek.
I'm a fan of both clubs, and honestly, it makes me sad.
I loved the Dom of old, and it just sucks to see him pulling a Messier/Jordan. (More Jordan, really -- Mess is delusional that he can still play, but Jordan and Hasek both seem to think the sport still owes them a job.)
If I was Hasek, I'd hang it up now, if only to preserve my rightful place above Roy as the best modern day goalie. These new rules are going to wreak havoc on his career stats.
I wish Dom well. If he's healthy, and with the talent he has in front of him, he may just get his name on the Cup again. I would expect the Sabres to have other worries when playing the Sens... like Hossa, Havlat, Alfredsson, etc... With the defense currently on paper, the Sabres look like they're going to be making their goaltenders earn every penny of salary, as well as getting a nice tan from all the red glare.
Ottawa is looking for the pieces to make a Cup contender. I applaud them for the talent they have accumulated and the moves they're making to address their weaknesses. I wish I could see the team I've rooted for since childhood do the same.

I will be surprised if he's anywhere near the form he was before (though I suppose half a Hasek is better than most others at full strength). He's 40+ and didn't play at all over the lock-out other than a little during training camp a year ago. But then again, maybe the Sens don't even need a spectacular goalie, just a consistently solid one...

Wow, very honourable post..
You're almost making me feel bad for trolling in here

I think this is pretty accurate - nobody is confusing the 2005 edition of Dominik Hasek with the one from his glory days, but he's being brought in for his veteran presence and confident attitude as much as for what he can actually do on the ice. Frankly, Ottawa isn't a team that needs a Vezina-callibre goaltender... they just need someone who can inspire confidence and who has been through the wars a few times. On a team used to having develop their own stars, Hasek brings a presence, poise, and 'swagger' that is all too often lacking in Ottawa, and which is very much needed.
HNIC should have Buffalo/Ottawa on the first Saturday of the season ( although they have to compete with Montreal/Toronto)... the Sabres and Sens always put on a good show... I just hope the new diving rules don't sink in with Dom until later in the season, I love watching the Oscar worthy sniper-in-the-stands scenes he tries to pull off.

Assuming the Sens can get their cap mess in order (which also assumes that Muckler sticks to his word about not buying anyone out, which is alot of assuming). They'll have between $9-11 million to give to Hossa, Havlat, and Spezza and that's to get right under. Teams will obviously want to leave some room. How I'd love to see the Sabre brass put some pressure on a division rival by getting creative with some RFA offers. If we're willing to think about qualifying Satan at 4, I'd give up the compensation for Hossa at 4.9. Ottawa would surely match that unless we also were to take a chance on Spezza being the real deal (and I think he is) and offer him a tidy sum too...

i suppose the Sabres would actually have to make the playoffs beofre we wipe the floor with you so i will say it will be the Sabres who disappear come playoff time.

Do you remember 1999 my friend? When the star power of Alexei Yashin and friends could bring you....mmmm 0 wins out of 4 games??
I think I must be in the minority when I think that Hasek can still be very effective for Ottawa. A rested groin is a happy groin. Will he be the same Dominator from the Buffalo days? No, but he still has the ability to put together stretches and catch fire to a point that shooters will once again be frightened at the thought of facing him. With a solid, talented team from top to bottom in front of him, I can see great things happening for Dom and the Sens.
Hasek will be fine if he stays healthy. The layoff may help him in that regard. He's conditioning freak. I have no doubt he's in tip-top shape. In 2003-04, at age 38 he put up better numbers than Noronen while playing with a bad groin. If the groin holds up, Ottawa has themselves a major upgrade in net. Martin Prusek is no slouch either.
