What to do with Shannon?

I am very very very impressed by Shannon's recent play, he been given top minutes and he's a different man now, it's like all of the sudden he has some hockey sense, knows where his teammates are, knows where to be, making crisp passes etc. Too bad he still can't finish.

The Condra and Shannon combo is really fun to watch every shift.

Maybe it's just Condra is a hockey player and his stamina is rubbing off Shannon.

But anyways, do we resign him, is his current play the result trying to earn a contract or that he's finally been given top minutes and no pressure on him or both.

I think he could be a decent winger on the 3rd line next season with Condra, I will definitely keep him over Svatos and Poultny.

Next season like this?

Draft/UFA- Speeza- Butler
Michalek-Regin-Alfie
Condra-Foligno-Shannon
Greening-Smith-Neil

I say yes. He's a cheap NHL player with workable skill who can serve as a stop gap while we rebuild. He's one of those guys who needs 2nd Line minutes to be effective; his skill is wasted on the 3rd and 4th lines because he's so small and he's incapable against top pairing defensemen, again due to size. I see no problem keeping him on board, we need more cheap skill and less grinding IMO.

Give him the job of being Spartacat's side kick.

I like the cut of his jib. Lets give him a 10 year contract at league minimum.

He's a great player in meaningless games. Remember the Foligno-Fisher-Shannon line at the end of 09. Some thought we had a solid second line for the future with bunch.

Imagine if the club did not play players based on pay and Shannon was given this opportunity the entire season? Might have seen a better team overall. Who knows?

I see Shannon's usual great play in meaningless games is affecting people again. The guy is only playing this way to get a contract. Once he inevitably gets the said contract he'll disappear like he did for most of this season and last.

Like Regin?

And I'm sure Shannon would have wanted more than his 8 min a game to get some things going. More ice means more good things (if you have skill and can skate and he has shown he can).

Everybody knows. He's been given his chances over the seasons he's been with Ottawa and doesn't have the finish you need to play in a good top 6.

Neither Regin nor Shannon are top 6 players.

We have enough bottom 6 guys without Shannon.

Jury on Regin's still out, he's young and shown flashes, had a sophomore slump so we will see.

Some people think they are Judge Judy when it comes to Regin. They don't need a jury.

And shame on Anderson too for standing on his head the last several games and helping the Sens win. He too is playing for a contract.....a fat one at that. Just terrible.

We should sign some of those. If they don't work out, we can always buy them out for like five bucks a year over the next century.

Regin is younger, and actually played well in high pressure situations. Shannon is Shannon, the guy will always be a fringe player. Regin had a terrible season, but he can bounce back and be a good player for us.

Well if he plays bad next year, then it is "just terrible".

Keep him and play him with Condra - Regin - Shannon as a 3rd line next year.

He's cheap and he's working hard.

Svatos on the other hand... do not wan't.

Resign him for cheap, not like he would hurt a rebuild.

People kept saying we needed veterans to help the young players develop. Who better than Shannon, who works his butt off every game?

Keep him. He's alright. We need some actual NHLers in the line up.

But, this also depends on what UFAs Ottawa can sign this summer.
