It's actually a pretty ideal situation contractually. He is only eligible for a 1 year entry level contract. If he comes in, and makes the team, great. If not, he goes to the AHL or the two parties mutually agree to let him out of his contract so he can return to Europe.
Obviously, they would have to assess his ability to make an impact at the NHL level, but he is a bottom 6 player that can bring a lot to the table. The Leafs could certainly use an agitating player. Anything is an upgrade over Sjostrom.
AH! I was just about to say the exact same thing! lol.
We need to actually draft/developed third-line talent.
I'm not talking about failed top-six guys who just weren't good enough for that.
I'm talking about a physical, shutdown, great checker, top PKer who is good for 40 points on the third line.
Boyce isn't that. Brent isn't that. We don't have that in our system with the exception of Hanson and Ryan/Ross.
WOW. I agree. We do not have developed players that excel at this role. I believe that komarov type talent, with ryan and ross, are destined to be impact players in the bottom 6 that are to play with brown, and army.
Everyone knew Kulemin and Rask were going to be NHLers.
Gunarsson silently did his thing and kind of came out of no-where, and Frattin is a promising but still developing talent.
The former guys all have stand-out skills of their own.
Komarov just doesn't seem like an NHL player to me at all, and even if he made it to the AHL, I think that's his peak.
And what are you basing this opinion on? Been watching him a lot in Russia?
Without seeing him play, but noticing he was a KHL all-star would lead me to believe he's at least capable of playing above the ECHL like you stated earlier in the thread.
Also if we sign him I'm sure it's Leafs or bust, as he'd make a lot more money in the KHL then the AHL.
he is like a Ruutu type player with some offence. it's worth the look. if not it's possible we could trade his rights for another player. Carl Haglin is also a NCAA UFA this year if the Rangers don't sign him.. I'd take the risk on Haglin.

What I was thinking. I don't think we get much access to KHL or any euro games here in NA. I would take the euro posters words for it. I'm intrigued.
(Bumping old thread as I don't feel like making a new one.)
I keep seeing people with Komarov on the 4th line what I wanted to bring up is does anything else feel like if he can get adapted to the North American game that it is not impossible to see him being a 3rd line grinder? I mean he has shown in the KHL and AHL he has the ability to put the puck in the net and play an overall solid game. I just feel like he could very well play his way onto the third line.

We'll find out when the NHL starts up again.
Kind of hard to suggest he can or cannot when he's never played a game in the NHL.
