Did people see this gem in there?

Keeping Murray around would be the worst possible move. If the only way Anderson would stay is if Murray hangs around then I would bid him good luck and bye-bye.

This organization needs a younger, more energetic GM who can do a much better job at assessing NHL talent, not just amateurs.

We also need a coach with actual winning NHL experience - not a GM who won't even let the coach bring in his own staff - a sign of micromanagement at best.

Starting a rebuild with a 70 yr old GM who won't be around to see the results strikes me as a bizarre notion, but unfortunately pretty much what I expect from Melnyk. Murray has some kind of hypnotic hold him.

I think the agent was just letting Ottawa know that it needs to have its house in order before any free agents will consider it as a destination. There is a lot of uncertainty around the club right now.
UFAs pick where they want to go based mainly on money, but also on the team situation. If Ottawa's situation isn't sorted out soon, UFAs will not exactly be keen to sign somewhere where there is no future plan.
So, Ottawa needs to have a GM in place soonish and if it's not Brian Murray, then get on with it and bring in the new GM or just let Murray stay another year.

Sounds like a bunch of people here are going to be disappointed when the selection of GM and coach are formally announced this summer.

I don't care if BM stays at this point, he's shown that he is willing to make moves and be aggressive. Clouston has got to go, we need an older coach who has NHL experience in this league and can handle a growing team that isn't going to be competitive.

Signing coaches is only one of the GM's duties to judge him solely on that would be silly.

He has drafted well and until they went bad had some good signings. The Anderson for Elliot flip was awesome!

Murray is an Ottawa area guy, has great zingers for articles and has beer and pizza with the Sun boys. Did you expect anything more than pom-pom waving from Brennan?

Younger somehow means better? More energetic? I have no idea what that means. Does BMurray not have any energy? What would you like him to do, run around his office?

Will he be his own "league source" or "league executive"?

I'm okay with Murray staying as GM, I thought he did a good job getting the picks he did for this yr's draft, getting the two goalies & doing the right thing with his players even though I was against the Phillips signing. However, I would prefer that a more experienced coach is hired like Bob Hartley.
