Hasek's return

Mentioned in Vogl's article, Hasek will be back.

Anyone else think, with the bad blood finally buried, we finally see Hasek's number raised to the rafters where it belongs?

Absolutely and it better fill that stupid empty spot between Lala's and the rest. Why is there such a big gap there, anyone know?

I used to be against it, but really there is no good reason why it shouldn't be. The guy was a beast and will go down as one of the top 3-5 goaltenders of all time.

I wonder what he meant by "Dominik Hasek will be back this month."

Maybe Hasek will be brought back a goalie coach, or maybe something in the Front Office?

Tim Horton's banner is supposed to be there. Seperation is out of respect.

He'll be in the Arena, honored in some capacity.

But yes, 39 needs to be retired. As I've said before, Grade A *******, but arguably the greatest Sabre to ever lace them up (no disrespect to Perreault).

I hadn't thought much about it, I wonder if that's what they're up to...

When did they take it down and why after all these years? FAIK it went Robert, Perreault, Martin, Horton, Gare, <empty>, LaFontaine from left to right, center ice towards the outside walls. All the pictures I can find including the sabres 3-d seating chart agree although not all of them show the gap.

NCAA requires any non NCAA banners taken down during March Madness. When the banners were raised after the Buffalo games were played, they put the non-French Connection banners went up backwards.

Honestly, I don't agree with the idea that Hasek wasn't a good guy. As fans, we were angry at ownership all the time. The players probably get as angry at apathetic ownership as the fans, although some are better at masking it.

I don't think he would ever have said that he's a "Red Wing for life" or whatever it was if someone like Pegula owned the team.

I'm not still not sure why Dom said some of the things he said when he left. That being said, he is the greatest hockey goaltender to ever walk the planet and number 39 needs to be raised to the rafters.

Are you looking to give Eklund some new material with that theory?

Seriously though, I think it means what it says in the TBN full report - Hasek will make a guest appearance not unlike what the French Connection did in Pegula's first home game:

Quote:
Hasek, who won two MVP awards while playing goaltender for Buffalo but left in a contentious trade, will be a guest at the arena March 19 when the Sabres host Atlanta.

Others will return April 8 for the home finale.

What intrigues me is who the "others" will be in the home finale. Personally, I'd love to see LaFontaine, Ramsey and Hawerchuk make appearances.

Considering that his greatest days were in the Goathead, I'd say that makes sense - but, at the same time, I don't think teams retire players in different variations of their past uniforms, do they?

With the emphasis on eliminating slug references in the arena, I'd imagine that Hasek - and any other future retired numbers - will be in the traditional Blue & Gold no matter what.

Ted Black said that every living Buffalo Sabres Alumni is invited to the season finale...

He's going to be Miller's backup...he's still shutting 'em down over in the KHL...7 shutouts this season!

It would be cool for him to come in and play one last game and then retire, assuming a playoff spot was in hand...I don't think that's likely, since its the KHL

Put his number up. He deserves it. Enough time has passed, anyone who still harbors a grudge won't ever let go.
