The Official Matt Carle Appreciation Thread

I wanted to show my appreciation for Matty Carle. He's currently +22 and he's 3rd in assists. Also, Pronger hasn't been 100% for the most part this season so I don't think the stats are inflated because of the "Pronger Effect".

Also, he's a class act on/off the ice.

Keep it going #25!

anyone who donates money to chop is a-okay in my book, i was basically raised there growing up.

plus, carle often does things on the ice that go under appreciated but are essential to the wins that we have.

Carle has his flaws but he's been a hell of a defenseman for us this season. He's stepped up big time with Pronger being injured. Let's also not forget last season he made big plays in the playoffs. Hopefully he does that again this year.

His contributions off the ice have been stellar, and he hasn't been horrible lately on the ice the past 2 games either.

I think he's been a solid player all year. I think he's been much more steady this year than in the past.

He has been horrible on the PP, but his last second pinch in the leafs game, which lead to a goal is why he is a good offensive Dman.

I believe he has been more productive with Pronger out then with Pronger in the lineup, but maybe that is because Pronger is not yelling at him to get back into position?

There is some warranted hate for him on these boards, and then some unwarranted hate.

Don't be ignorant. It's Palin / Carle. Carle needs another take-charge heavy to cover for him when the going gets tough.

He does that **** all the ****ing time and nobody makes any notice of it at all.

I could make a long YT video of him making great passes leading to the scoring of key goals. Heck, is it the Giroux OT goal in the SCF that he makes not one but two great passes in the matter of a few seconds to set up the goal?

But once in awhile he makes an inexplicable pass in his own end to a teammate that isn't ready that turns into a shot against - very rarely a goal - so let's completely overlook the positives he brings to the table.

I think he's upped his game about over the last month or so, even through the slump. Less turnovers, more careful with the puck it seems.

Well the last part is sarcastic, but he really has been more productive when Pronger was out of the line up. I know this is a small sample size, but it shows that he is a capable defenseman.

67 GP 1g 30a 31pts -> .463 PPG
50 GP w/ Pronger 1g 19a 20pts -> .4 PPG
17 GP w/o Pronger 0g 11a 11pts -> .647 PPG

That is an over 60% difference. Now DON'T take this as saying that he plays overall better without Pronger, there is a whole defensive side argument to be made. But he has been more offensively productive when Pronger is out of the line up.

Yes shame on him for trying to make things happen and turning over the puck. Risk reward
