zherdev replacements for next year...

I think its safe to say that our team is an incredibly close one, and i would expect the club to keep almost every player, knowing chemistry only gets better and the locker room is so tight.

Zherdev on the other hand could be intersting as hell.
if the flyers win the cup, i think we could POSSIBLY sign him, and he could be a changed man with a new outlook on hockey, and him and lavvy understand eachother and now respect eachother etc etc.
or he could say 'eff you' and walk away after this year(waaaaaaay more likely), so thats really our one slot to fill

i'd like one of three things (off the top of my head):

1. Upshall to replace Z would be AMAZING (Upshall/giroux/versteeg would be dope)

2. We get a great deflections guy for around 3-3.5 mil (hartnell and carcillo are on such a different tier than knuble was at deflections...its a role our team needs filled, like on the PP)

3. A prospect like Nodl gets real ice time, maybe rinaldo or wellwood could make the team as well.

so, what would you do?

I think Wellwood, Carcillo and Nodl will battle for the spot, but if you can get a Knuble for 2-2.5 I would sign him

He's done, from what I can tell from the LA board.

I'd love to see Wellwood make a splash. Kid gives it his all night in, night out.

take his spot in the press box?

i want to say zherdev's money will be allocated to keep leino

even though having upshall or gagne back would be great...unless they trade a defenseman i dont see how it could be possible

I'd love to sign Cole on a 1 year deal! But idk if we will have enough cap room after signing Leino like someone else pointed out.

Hasn't be been replaced by Versteeg? They already have Briere, Carter, Richards, Giroux, Hartnell, Van Riemsdyk, and Leino as well; I can't imagine they can fit another significant piece.

We play three scoring lines. I do like Carcillo in the top 9 with Richards and Versteeg though. He is much more effective with more playing time and when he is in pest mode. And idk how they do it either but we fit in 6 pretty darn good D so I'm sure they could find a way to sign someone like Cole/Gagne to fit in our team.

I think Carcillo did he best work here when he was on the ****ing tank of a 4th line with Betts and Lappy. Being in the top 9 is just because we can't really roll three full scoring lines but have still committed it.

I've got no idea how to top off the top-9 with a real scorer. We've got plenty of bodies, but they're not going to add a whole lot compared to what their linemates would be bringing.

The only way they're going to do that is with a vet way past his prime or an ELC. Either way, it won't happen. My money is still on Wellwood

Let someone earn the spot in camp and use the money to resign Leino.

I bolded who I feel we should re-sign.

UFA/RFA:
Zherdev
Leino
Carcillo
Nodl
Powe
O' Donnell
Boynton
Boucher

Yet we only have $2M in cap space to sign 4-5 roster spots.

Nodl-Richards-Versteeg
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
JvR-Carter-Giroux
Shelley-Betts-Powe

Carle-Pronger
Timonen-Coburn
Meszaros-???

Bobrovsky
???

I feel Nodl is better at his defensive game but he'll probably be our other guy in the top 9. Only way we fit in a Cole or Gagne would be if Homer made a significant move.

Give a Phantom like Wellwood or that new guy Tostitos or whatever his name is a shot in camp as the ninth forward, let them battle Nodl for that spot

If it comes at a cost it is definately not worth it. I love upshall and the energy and commraderie he brings to the team, but he is likely going to be more than we can afford and will likely be overpaid. He is a tweener exactly like versteeg who can play anywhere in the lineup but vertseeg is much more talented younger and way more versatile.

Think it's time to look inside the organization. Wellwood/Holmstrom look like they could be decent choices to stock our bottom 6.

The correct answer is Eric Wellwood, who seems like he has a decent future as a 3rd line forward.

I think the Gagne ship has sailed.
