I would guess that there is a chance that a US judge would declare the player an UFA. I think it would depend on state law, has this ever been litigated before, in another sport?

I really hope Murray can make some kind of move for him in the off season especially if Washington makes a quick exit out of the playoffs this year.

Ideally he'd want to stay even though I know we have an aversion to russians.
Semin is signed until the end of the 2011-2012 season.

No thanks to Semin. Overpriced, soft floater. Basically a young Kovalev. Maybe when we're a contender and he can be had as a playoff rental.

This post couldn't buy a clue. Are you ****ing serious? Why even talk about a player if you have no idea what you're talking about?

I know. I was thinking more of a trade of some sort. Maybe Foligno + NSH 1st + for Semin. A draft of Strome/RNH + Semin as long as we could somehow find a way to convince him to stay with us long term would be just amazing.

Spezza + Semin on a line would just be filthy.

You mean why even talk about a player when I don't agree with you?

No, I mean why even talk about a player if you don't know what you're talking about? Semin is absolutely nothing like Kovalev except they are both Russian, and he is far from a 'soft floater.' Do you even watch him play? He plays hard, he is often involved in important areas, and he's an important part of one of the top PKs in the league. His two way game is actually really good.

Most people that call Semin soft just have no idea what they're talking about. Not a slight by any means but you shouldn't talk about a player unless you're prepared to get called on it.

That's pretty funny stuff. I'm pretty sure I've watched him more than you have. The Kovalev reference is because like Kovalev, he's an enigma. World class skill on some games, then he disappear for stretches. Ask any Caps fans, the knock of him has always been inconsistency. He does float. Just wait until he actually gets a long term deal...

He's inconsistent offensively, but he's never a floater. He has a solid defensive game, and even though he's not always the best on the offensive side of the game he's always solid defensively. There's a big difference between Semin's inconsistency and Kovalev's. Kovalev, when he isn't trying, is one of the worst players on the ice. When Semin isn't owning everyone on the ice he still plays an above average game.

I like the 'I've watched him more than you have' thing though.

Semin averages about a takeaway per game and would be in the top 5 in the league in takeaways if not for injury, and has a lower GAPG at ES than Toews who is heralded for his two way play.

I'd probably be willing to trade down a bit for more picks. Don't see a deal involving a player happening though.

I would only trade the pick for a player on an ELC, currently producing in the NHL, at a level similar to what would be projected with our pick.

I can't really think of anyone off the top of my head, but I think that's the only way I would move it.

This.

How about Zach Bogosian or Brent Burns? Brayden Schenn?

No, no. Maybe, but maybe not.

Bobby Ryan, sure. Jeff Carter, no.

I'd do it for Luke Schenn, or possibly Joe Colborne and a 3rd.

I would maybe consider Parise, but would rather just keep the pic, maybe package the Nash pic with something else to get it done as well.

Gotta be a joke. What happened to your TEN YEARS of personal observation on Schenn and his lack of hands?

I'd consider trading our pick; especially at the draft after the lottery. Whether it's down a spot for more picks or packaged with a guy like Foligno for a guy like Bobby Ryan.

Why is anyone with an unpopular or unconventional opinion considered a troll? And I've been here since 09, not terribly new at any rate.
