Heat moving to Chilliwack?

Quote:
CKNW has reported that talks are underway about possibly moving the Calgary Flames affiliate from Abbotsford to Chilliwack, citing a deal to move the WHL Bruins to Victoria, which is reportedly 70 per cent complete.

it would have to be a temp fix and some great incentive for the Flames... the Heat are guaranteed certain profit levels and the city pays for all the visitor travel

It seems the Flames' affiliate is in a never ending game of hot potato.

the only way i see this happening is a) Chiliwack is willing to match the Abbotsford agreement or b) the Canucks are willing to pay the losses of moving the team to Chiliwack (based on teh Abbotsford deal)... or C) Abbotsford can cancel the agreement with teh Flames if the Canucks want to put their affiliate there

personally I think it would make more sense for the Moose to move to Chiliwack or Victoria

Why? Manitoba's attendance has been great, and they have plenty of fan support. 8000 fans a night is pretty damn good for an AHL team. Only way they move is if Winnipeg gets an NHL team.

why do you think this is being done?

the Moose also are an independent franchise, they are not owned by the Canucks, so in fact the Canucks may make more money by owning a team in the Fraser Valley area

Getting ready for the Phoenix Coyotes move to Winnipeg. The Moose will need a new home.

I was told the deal that is going to move the Bruins to Victoria was simply coming down to price and if they did purchase the team, they new owner WOULD move it. Chillwack is not a good place to move to imo. The Heat found some fans in Abbotsford and are very prominent in the community there. Moving would only hurt the team.

Rumour of Heat exit amuses Flames president King

Quote:
"I don't know what the Vancouver Canucks are doing, I don't know what the Chilliwack Bruins are doing, but I can tell you that I know what we're doing and we're not going anywhere," said King in relation to the Calgary club's B.C. farm team.

Quote:
"A, I can't comment on conjecture," added King, "and B, we're not going anywhere. We intend to enjoy that city for a good long time."

The Abbotsford agreement is pretty ironclad. I think what they are trying to do is avoid screwing over Abborsford. If they simply wanted a franchise, the Aquilinis could aquire one and move it to the coluseum or use up the empty dates in thier own building. Instant cash flow! It would mean the end of Abbotsford's ticket sales, though.

Truthfully, the Vancouver market hasn't rushed to support Calgary's farm team. Media coverage is nominal, too. It wouldn't be too much to call the experiment a failure, so far.

Chilliwack cannot support a team on thier own.

I think the Heat stay where they are and the Moose relocate somewhere else. Regina?
