Paul Hamilton was talking about $5 million per for Stafford this week. I don't know about that but anyone think we're looking at a Roy-type contract for him?
Stafford should be looking at $3.5 Million per possibly less. He brings slightly more offense than Ryan Clowe but with less "other stuff" (intangibles? ).
Sekera I think would depend exclusively on the length. He will probably finish in the 30 point range for the season which is worth about $2 Million a year.
id like to lock up Sekera and Stafford for 3+ years each. If they regress to old stafford/sekera then they fooled me. What can you do? They are both skating like the wind.

More than that for a 30-pt. defenseman i would imagine, although contracts players have gotten in recent years make it hard to tell what any player is 'worth' anymore

When Clowe signed that contract, he wasn't nearly the player he is today. A better comparison would be Pavelski, similar age, similar production, Pavelski brings more intangibles. So I guess anything under 4m is fair value. If he asks for more, trade him for a center.
When Pominville got his 5 million dollar contract, he was a UFA, who was a better playmaker and defensive player then Stafford is. So the idea that Stafford would get a similar contract to Pominville is assine. I'd say 3 million over 3 years.
Sekera can get 1.5 next year and 2 million the year after.
Butler should get 1 million over one or two years.
Gerbe can get 1.25 and 1.5 over the next two years.
Weber I think will probably get one year between 900,000 and 1 million.
Enroth will probably get something similar to Weber.
Id take all the players if i could except maybe Gerbe and/or Butler. Stafford im clueless on cause i dont want him to be another Tim Connolly where we pay him all the money but never shows up in game

He was actually a RFA. I think he was only a year removed from being an UFA (after his contract expired, not after the year he signed it), but still. I remember there were some people complaining that Regier signed him to UFA money when he actually wasn't.
These salaries are pretty realistic and I'd be on board with them.
Same here.
I have a feeling Stafford's contract talks will be difficult. Stafford never suffers from a low self esteem and iirc had a mini hold out for a recent deal when he had little leverage. Now that he has leverage, I expect him and his agent to use it to the fullest.
I like these. (I'm assuming the third year for Sekera is a UFA year?)
Yup.

Unfortunately I feel the same way. Didn't they sign him a few days before arbitration? Wouldn't be surprised if he accepts an offer-sheet. If he gets offersheeted do you think a lower 1st, 2nd and 3rd (over 4.5m) is enough to let him go? The last thing this club needs is yet another overpaid winger. On the other hand, compensation seems to be a little low, 2012 is supposed to be a dmen heavy draft and there isn't a comparable center available for a mid-low 1st rounder.

If the Stafford talks do become contentious. It will be interesting to see how Pegula reacts to something like that for the first time.
Stafford 4 yr / 15.0 / 3.75 per
Gerbe 1 yr / QO / ~ 800K
Sekera 4 yr / 12.0 / 3.0 per
Butler 2 yr / 3.5 / 1.75 per
Weber 1 yr / QO / ~ 800K
Enroth 3 yr / 2.70 / .900k per
I think you guys are aiming too low on Weber. I'd offer him at least 3 years, if not more. You have to take some chances and lock in some guys cheap for long term. With Weber's style of play and my perception of his character, I don't think you are going to have drop off in his level of play. (Goalies and scorers can be flukey and inconsistent, but stay-at-home defensemen tend to be more consistent, as long as they have a good work ethic and positive attitude.) Therefore, I lock him up for a while. If he continues to play at his current level for another year, his value will will increase significantly.

Is there a reason why you gave Butler more than twice as much as Weber?
And Weber's QO would be a lot lower than .8m.
It's probably just me but i cringe when i see Stafford at 4/yr. 3.75 per. It might be on target, but all i can think of is Connolly, Hecht and Pominville. Which in my view are all grossly overpaid. 2 yr. at 3.75 per, maybe better, but i know i know he will walk away from 2 yr deals etc .... I just don't like it. He will be the hardest contract to swallow this off season IMO.

Jeez, $5/per would be insanity. I could see it happening though, Stafford is a pretty cocky dude and I could see it being tough to negotiate.
