We are talking about a coach who actually won the Cup though

"Recent games"?

TWENTY GAMES

TWENTY

That is NOT the same as "recent".

No, you think the answer is moot because you don't like the number.

These are the times when your big players need to come up big, and your captain sure as heck had better be one of them.

Richards scored twice against Ottawa on Jan 20th. Since then, over the span of TWENTY GAMES, he has scored TWO goals.

That. Ain't. Good enough.

Wait, the Mike Richards who had 3 assists last night? Two of them on the power play which this time last week was clinically dead?

Maybe they actually do need to lose first place...

I honestly didn't know the number to like or dislike it. The answer was moot because it was a stat with out context, that was a willfully inaccurate oversimplification of a Richards' performance. If you want to discuss Mike Richards performance, than don't be so intellectually dishonest as to get tunnel vision, and focus on his worst stat.

Is he absolutely killing it on the stat sheet over the last quarter of the season? Obviously not. Point made. He's doing a lot of other good things though. And as someone else noted, he's still getting assists at a good pace, and I would add that he has played well defensively, gotten a new line mate, played with Dan Carcillo and Nodl, and had the flu in the last twenty games. I can live with fourteen points in that time under those circumstances.

Okay, he's not lighting the lamp lately. Spell it out for me. What's the essential point you're driving at here? That Mike Richards sucks and John Stevens rules and everyone in Philadelphia owes him an apology?

When his play merits him being torn into, yeah. I think people tend to be overly reactionary and critical in general here (such is the nature of sports talk), but making sure to be overly critical of everyone in the name of fairness is stupid.

I don't have much of an opinion on the teams recent slide, but in the face of millionaires making the money they do to play a sport, criticism or over-criticism of their play is fine by me, especially if said player is going to be a captain of a sinking ship... but then again the playoffs aren't quite here yet so I withhold my judgement, but those who are burning down on this JXC character based on his posting history regarding coaches or players is a little bit unfair. Frankly this team is headed now where fast other than a first round exit and how isn't that burden laid anywhere other than the players "in charge" - I guess JVR is going to get chewed out while the media is entering the locker room next if all goes to plan, anything to alleviate the pressure from those who reap the largest rewards when things are going well instead of looking in the mirror once in a while.

I think they won't stay mired in this, but if they do, you will likely be proven right. We'll hear about Bob and Coburn and O'Donnell and a little Briere, with some Shelley / Walker / Holmgren mixed in. Some people here will do anything to deflect from their sacred cows.

But I doubt it will happen, I think they are too deep to truly suck.

You're buying into the Tim Panaccio school of reporting where goals scored is the only measure of a player's play.

Not only that, you're doing it for no other reason than to ruffle some feathers during a low point of the season in order to justify your tired support of a coach who is a distant memory here.

Not to mention stuff like Timonen's goal... which Richards all but scored.

Yes/No... tough to compare the two rosters with the addition of Pronger (Stevens only got him for the first half of last year). The reality is that if Emery hadn't had his hip die on him, Stevens probably wouldn't have been fired last year.

Ah, yes, right. I actually think they were connected... but forgot that the original problem was different.
