Zdeno Chara

If Chara suddenly wanted out of Boston because of what happened as of late, what would the Bs get for Chara in a trade?

That trade would be a blockbuster in Boston's context, though.

I don't see him wanting out of Boston.

Even if he did, the asking price would be way too much. And rightfully so.

What kind of overpayment would that take?

I *think* the OP is just saying hypothetically because Boston would NEVER trade Chara.

it really depends on what teams would put together a good offer worth listening to..it would probably take a 1st rounder, top prospect, top dman, and a forward or something else..maybe even more

Look what Pronger fetched for Anaheim when he was dealt to Philadelphia... it should be similar.

I'd agree that Pronger is a good comparable, but I think Chara might get a little more since there seems to have been some inflation in proven player value this year.

That is if something happens in the future that would make him want to leave Boston. A falling out with his teammates, or management would do it, but I don't see that happening. It's not as if changing teams is going to make some fans change their opinion of him. He was always booed in Montreal.

Pronger type deal plus a little because he's younger and signed? (Prongs only had 1yr left, making his new deal a 35+ contract.)

Seeing the Boston got him for FREE from idiotic Ottawa GM John Mucklar as a UFA and now that he is 33-34

Not as much as people might think

I don't think how he was obtained makes any difference in regards to his value.

If he made it publicly known he wanted out i wouldnt expect much more than 2nd/3rd, prospect, and a top 3 defender either that or a straight up 1 for 1 player deal ala heatley hossa trade when heatley got in the car accident and killed dan snyder

He's worth much less than Pronger though. Pronger is a proven winner and leader. Chara is 0-5 in Game 7s and captained the worst playoff chokejob in the past 30 years.

Yeah, I don't either but still..

Chara will have to show one of these years that he is a playoff performer and lead his team to a deep run if not to a cup. The years Ottawa use to choke in the playoffs he was front and center, that is actually what led to Mucklar not qualifying him after the speedy Sabres forwards were walking him left and right in the high paced playoffs. The year after he was gone Ottawa made a run to the finals.

Ottawa was run out of the Stanley Cup finals because they couldn't compete physically with Anaheim, I get the feeling Chara would have made a difference there.

I think that would probably do it for Boston...if they weren't going for a cup run...making the idea of trading Chara unreal.

Ottawa never got out of the 2nd round and choked a plenty in the 1st round WITH him.

Maybe taking it to 7 games but Chara alone wouldn't be able to make up for Pronger, Getzlaf, that epic 3rd line, Giggy, etc..
