Player of the Game & The Good, The Bad, The Redden: Game #71 vs. New York Islanders

Player of the Game & The Good, The Bad, The Redden

The RulesWhat is the poll for?

You are voting for the player of the game - the one who put forth the most effort, who put the team on his shoulders, who contributed the most.

Do not vote for the player who had the best statistical game just because he had the best statistical game.

This does not mean you should not vote for the player of who had the best statistical game, but do not vote for him just because of that fact.

Who can I vote for?

You may vote for any player who dressed for the game and played at least one shift. If the player you want to vote for is not included in the poll, select "Other" and indicate in your post who you wish to vote for. In the case that I egregiously miss the player who everyone wants to vote for in the poll, I will count the votes in the thread.

What is this "The Good, The Bad, The Redden" nonsense?

It is my twist on the title of the famous spaghetti western movie, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Since multiple players may have outstanding games and you can only vote for one player in the poll, this affords you the opportunity to recognize multiple players, or a facet of the team, for their commendable play ("The Good"). This also affords you the opportunity to rip players, or a facet of the team, for their particularly substandard play ("The Bad"). Finally, just as "The Player of the Game" affords you the opportunity to recognize the best, this affords you the opportunity to commend the crème de la crème of the worst, who delivered an atrocious performance, or whose singular (or multiple) bad plays directly led to the the detriment of the team ("The Redden").

Alexander Frolov Memorial Trophy

The Alexander Frolov Memorial Trophy is awarded to the player who most exemplifies the qualities that Alex brought to the ice game in and game out. Most notable was his talent for wraparounds. Thusly, this award is given to the player who has the most wraparound attempts throughout the game.

The award tonight goes to Artem Anisimov and Sean Avery, both with 1 wraparound attempt against New York.

POTG: Gaborik

The Good: Gaborik, Christiensen, Lundqvist, Dubinsky, Callahan, Prospal, and the PP. Nice to see McCabe be rewarded on the PP.

The Bad: Spotty defense through the first 30-minutes of the game, too many giveaways, etc.

The Redden: Avery. I don't care if you love him, 4 PENALTIES is too many to take. I'd make him a healthy scratch next game. Should have finished a 6-2 game.

POTG: Gaborik
The Good: PP, offense, creativity, goaltending, PK
The Bad: defense wasn't sharp tonight, Mcdonagh had a few bad plays but played solid overall
The Redden: Avery, have fun riding the pine

Great game from all aspects offensively; Defensively, it wasn't our best, but it's usually the other way around, so I'll give the defense a pass tonight, because the offense more than made up for it. Can't complain about that.

POTG: Ryan McDonagh
Good: McCabe, Gaborik, Callahan, Dubinsky, Sauer, Lundqvist, Christensen, Prospal, Anisimov
Bad: Avery, Gilroy
The Redden: Gilroy, 2nd period start was pretty awful. They actually struggled a bit at times tonight, if they don't capitalize on those powerplays, we'd have been in trouble. but, unlike prior game, we did, and we won. Now at 78 points, leapfrogging Buffalo, who is currently losing.

The Good: We won
The Bad: Al Montoya
The Gilroy: That bad stretch to start the second. Can't pull that **** against a good team. And Avery's boarding which could've easily been a five.

Three Stars:

Bryan McCabe

Marian Gaborik

Ryan Callahan/Henrik Lundqvist

I normally hate ties, but there were too many good games to pick from tonight, so 4 stars.

Win! ******* yeah!

POTG: Gaborik

The Good: Lundqvist, the solid 1st period, the absence of own goal deflections

The Bad: Losing a 2 goal lead in 4 minutes

The Redden: Avery, no comments

I honestly don't think I heard Gilroy's name once. I forgot he was playing, I actually thought we had 5 defensemen out there for some reason.

That's how much Gilroy sucks.

He gets The Redden because he didn't sufficiently warm the press box for Avery.

Really? I thought it was one of the worst games McDonagh has played in a long time. Coughed up the puck a few times, didn't make great decisions, etc. He had an assist and all but I wasn't too impressed with him.

He had a shaky start to the 2nd period, but otherwise, he looked great.

It was a total homer vote though.

As awesome as he was to tonight it would be really nice to see Gabby do this against a good team.

Hopefully he builds on this.

We won, but the devils continue to creep along up the scoreboard.

We have 11 games to go. I'd sincerely like us too go 7-4 in that stretch. 2 extra big games against the Sabres and Devils to go.

Prust is my POTG. McDonagh looked a little rattled out there for awhile but recovered. Hoping Eminger stays in and Wolski comes back for Sean Penalty next game.

I don't know how Tavares didn't get a star of the game. The kid was a beast out there. He definitely should have been penciled into the top-3. Other then that, though, I thought the three stars were appropriate.

Now it comes down to... Who do you want to win? Buffalo or Carolina? I'm kind of pulling for Buffalo. Beating Carolina gives us a 6-point spread over the 9th place team. Carolina beats Buffalo and we have a 4-point spread but are one place in front of Buffalo who will still have games at hand on us.

I'm with you. I'd rather have the cushion between us and Carolina.

BTW, the Devils need to relax. I feel like I've been waiting forever for this ridiculous streak of theirs to end. Either Maclean was the worst coach of all time or Lemaire really is a genius.
