Really? I thought he had a pretty average night; I was screaming at my monitor when he tried to deke the living hell out of Vokoun on that semi-breakaway instead of shooting the puck. Also he was still trying to be cute in the neutral zone which resulted into a turnover.

I agree that he's been our most consistent forward all year; but tonight without a doubt Carter was the best player on the ice. Giroux's best game since the All-star break was probably that Islanders game that we won in OT.

Anyways; great win, good to see a solid third period (wow this GDT is dead) I was laughing when Tim and Therien were mentioning that for 14 seconds Washington was the top team in the Eastern Conference...not anymore

If a 6'6 220 future hall of fame defenseman doesnt make the other team play less physically then im not sure anything can

It just seems almost every team i watch is on the next gear while we seem to be stuck in reverse and la la land. Seems like we got lucky again tonight and we did. Florida was all over us and the announcers in the 3rd period with a few minutes left were saying i guess Philly is happy to sit back on this lead as they aren't showing any signs of offense. Its getting bad when you have a league rep now that if you just skate a bit harder, you'll crush our morale and we will fold.

I can watch any nhl game and watch any flyers game lately and the flyers just look like they are doing a warmup skate compared to almost every other team. I actually saw versteeg which some jump on the forecheck and i was like wow, it would be nice if they all skated like that for 60 mins.

That game was fast because both Washington and Montreal are two fast teams. Montreal always skates fast because they have fast forwards, and Washington has huge forwards that can cover great lengths of the ice. Having speed doesn't mean anything unless you have finish; Montreal has countless odd man rushes caused by their speed but they rarely score on them because they don't have a lot of finish.

I mean look at Boston; they're far from being a fast team. They use their big bodies to cycle well and play sound defensively and that's how they win games and remain a true contender. Yes, speed factors into the Flyers system; but our system doesn't revolve around speed.

Nice, close to a 60 minute effort. Let's keep it going now.

Yeah, that's the thing...nothing can. Chara's presence didn't stop Richards from playing physically in Game 3.

You don't remember some of the games last year where people were going after Richards/Briere all game long because no one would stand up to them? Their presence on the ice matters

No. I don't recall that at all, because it was blown out of proportion by people trying to justify the Shelley signing. That's happened this year as well. If anything, people now know that if you mess with Briere, you're going to catch a stick to the crotch. Richards fights when someone takes liberties with him.

Watch the Maple Leaf game. And Richards shouldn't fight often.

I'm really struggling to recall instances of people running Richards all game like he's a midget pushover.

This includes last year, and the year before that, and the entirety of Richards' career.

It wasn't just one game. That was just the best sample. The Ottawa game where Shelley stands up and gives Neil his after going after Giroux? I don't get it?

Btw that Giroux/Briere/Carter line has a good amount of potential. I always liked Giroux and Briere together but never knew who to put with them.

Well if everyone on the team can hold their own I guess we signed shelley for his playmaking ability.

Gargano and Macnow were going on about how Flyers are in the midst of an epic collapse and have completely lost it. Neither of those stooges ever mentioned the fact that the Flyers are still in 1st place. Eskin then continued the idiocy by saying that Laviolette has had the "wrong objective" of winning the conference. As if he should have had some lower goal or something. And the callers - my GOD the callers are just shockingly stupid.

I feel foolish for ever having listened even for just those 5 minutes total. I am certain that my overall and hockey i.q. has been significantly diminished.

Shelley didn't prevent Giroux from getting run, and he didn't prevent Ottawa from generally being goony.

What did Shelley do to prevent Carle from getting roped into a fight with Avery...or prevent any of this in general?

If teams want to take liberties with the Flyers, they will. They aren't going to care if it means their enforcer will have to fight Shelley.

Homer signed him because he honestly believed he would be a 3rd line player here. He then proceeded to overpay him.

Not to rain on the parade, but I wish Mr. Carter had these kinds of games against playoff teams.

Carcillo's fight might have aided in a momentum change, too.

I find it hard to believe that he expected Shelley to play on the 3rd line when he has been a 4th liner in the league for awhile.
