It's still a pretty rare thing to see an 18 year old Dman take regular and important shifts in a mens league like the SEL and be a plus/minus leader.

He doesn't lack any of the qualities needed to be a first unit player in every situation. But like I said, there's some forwards in this draft with equal types of upside and they should be higher on our list...but like I said again, we've got better insight into this guys potential than any other team in the league.

It's also well-documented he played injured for a lot of the season.
I'm not sold on him as a first-unit power play guy. Though we have guys for that, but he's not the prototypical PPQB.

And it's true about the injury, it's gotta be kept in the back of the mind that he might look "lazy" or seem to not work as hard because he's just sparing his groin. But we don't know how much that hindered him.

Great reason not to draft him though, long-lasting groin issues.

RNH has and will always be my pick. Lando is way overrated on HF.

edm - larsson
ott - rnh
col - lando
nyi - couturier
fla - strome

bpa ftw

We need to draft Landeskog to show the stamina required for the culture change Murray alluded to. Maybe get a shot a Larsson and then Mika Zibanejad and Hellberg.

Having then signed Andersson we complete the change to the Senaswedes by changing the logo helmet to one with Viking connotations. Gold to yellow and add three crowns

Next year we could have

Michalekius - Spezzastr°m - Butlerdahl
Landeskog - Regin* - Alfredsson
Folignoholm - Smithsson- Neilbeck
Greeningren - Winchesterling - Condralund
Silfverberg

Phillipsfeldt - Karlsson
Cowenberg - Rundblad
Goncharqvist - Leener
Carrknersval

Andersson
Lehner

*May have to get Sweden to annex Denmark....but he's close enough

Would love Nielsen here, one of the best defensive forwards out there, I'd say.

Wasn't he most underrated player voted on by players?

My latest vid.

Here's my short scouting report on him for those who don't want to open another window:

2011 NHL Draft prospect Zack Phillips of the QMJHL's Saint Johns Sea Dogs.

He's known for his smart two way game and playmaking. He is a natural center although he's been playing on fellow top prospect, Jonathan Huberdeau's wing for most of the 2010-11 season. However, he does take the brunt of the face off work. He's thrived in the the role, accumulating 92 points in 64 games, ranking him 7th overall in the league.

38 of those points have been goals, so its safe to say he's not one dimensional. He's a good shooter who can finish plays and pick his spots in open space. Still, his best attribute is his ability to distribute the puck. This strength doesn't arise from flashy plays or over handling of the puck but smart positioning, good decision making and playing hard.

His skating may not be a weakness but its likely holding him back from being considered a surefire 1st rounder at this point. If he does continue to develop and improve his straight line speed and acceleration he could very well become a versatile top 6 forward in the NHL one day.

Oh, really? Wouldn't surprise me. Great player but Danish and playing for a bottom-feeder on Long Island doesn't really click with the star quality match-maker.

Since we're not really talking draft up there. For those wanting Oscar Klefbom or Jonas Brodin with our own second-rounder (I want Klefbom, for what it's worth) things are looking good right now. Klefbom has yet to take a shift in the playoffs and Brodin is in and out of the line-up.

Altough there's still the U18 tournament to really show what they got, of course.

Great job again, FQL. Your video certainly piqued my interest in Phillips. I hadn't noticed his Giroux-like qualities before, but certainly see them now.

If Ottawa drafts Couturier & Phillips & with rundblad coming there will be a huge fight over who wears #7.

I like this idea.Imagine the marketing opportunities in Sweden.

I'm pretty sure the Carknersval sweaters would be flying off the shelves in Stockholm.

even more interesting:

11. Jensen, Nicklas, F 3/6/93 L 6.02.25 188 Oshawa OHL
12. Saad, Brandon, LW 10/27/92 L 6.01.25 208 Saginaw OHL
13. Armia, Joel, RW 5/31/93 R 6.03 191 Assat FinE
14. Zibanejad, Mika, C 4/18/93 R 6.01.5 191 Djurgarden SweJE
15. McNeill, Mark, C 2/22/93 R 6.01 204 Prince Albert WHL
16. Khokhlachev, Alexandr F 9/9/93 L 5.10 188 Windsor OHL

i'd like me some jensen, but ziba aint a bad consolation prize, and mcniell could be a good fit too if we dont take a center first.

And no Klefbom in the top-30, which I love from a Sens standpoint.

No Brodin either, which is quite surprising.

But I guess you guys don't want to draft D in the first few rounds?

Well, we could throw anyone in there. It's such a loose term, how many points do they need to get to be considered contributing, and who're they gonna play with?

Anyway, in terms of likelihood to play in the NHL, I'd definitely rule out Zibanejad. He'll stay another year and play a full year in a big role in the SEL for sure.

Joel Armia has another year on his contract with his FEL-team, so I'd think he'd stay as well.

Word is the Oilers are taking a long hard look at Couturier, and I doubt Larsson will fall out of the Top 2. I think we have a pretty good chance at RNH at #3 even if he's ranked first.
