With Garden renovations underway, there is increasing chatter that the Rangers will open next season, not in Russia, but with two games in Stockholm against either the Los Angeles Kings or Calgary Flames. Those games would be preceded by exhibition games in Prague and Budapest and three road exhibition games in the U.S. After Europe, the Rangers would play a number of games on the West Coast of either the U.S. or Canada before returning for the home opener around Oct. 30. A NHL spokesman last night said that no contracts have been signed and declined further comment.
Zipay is a Cablevision employee. Newsday is owned by Cablevision. Too many details in his story for it not to be true. NHL spokesman(Frank Brown)didn't deny the story.
normally I wouldnt advocate bringing back older players but Jagr/Richards/Gaborik could be nasty with Jagr being the 3rd man in picking up the lose pucks.
Lundqvist could show everyone where to pick up the hot swede chicks!
Can he show me?
Can't say I'd be thrilled about this. It's nice to be part of big events and such, but it sounds like boys are gonna have a pretty tiring schedule as it is.
Guess we're due for a rough start. Recovering from those first few games can be brutal.
Flip side is that the team will probably have an extended home stand towards the end of the year. The games should probably be a bit more spaced out then they were this year as well, harder to schedule all road games to start.
They opened in Prague withot Jagr. I don't want Stockholm without Lundqvist. Or Bratislava w/o Gaborik. Or Moscow w/o Anisimov. Let them go on the road in NA. I don't care abot NHL global PR.
Rangers better be a good home team next season because they'll be at home much more often than usual starting in November. Talking about 8-10 road games before playing one home game (I'm sure one of the European games will count as a home game).
another benefit is not having to make a west coast trip in the middle of the season when the grind really gets going.. they'll get it out of the way early

Yeah it's usually a two game set so one will be a road game and the other a home game.
If they can actually play well at home, this could be a huge benefit for them. More home games towards the end of the year with a decreased travel schedule at the end due to playing on the road early on. Could be big for a team that could be tired.
I would love one game in each city - Stockholm and Gothenburg. Hit both in December for some games and am positively giddy about the opportunity to go back.
