Great news. Hopefully he come's out angry and gives Howard a run for the starter job. Do it up Oz.

So this is where he get hot and takes us to another cup so that his place in the HHoF is set in stone...?

I have a feeling he's going to be really bad.

Here's hoping that Osgood stays in that 400th-win-against-Colorado-mode for the rest of the season. Realistically, though, I'd expect him to be a bit rusty out of the gate.

It'll be a fine line to balance between trying to get Osgood back to proper game shape and needing to win now.

Seriously, games 6 and 7 in 09 probably cost Ozzie the Hall, and he stopped 45 of 49 in those games. If the Wings had been able to do anything offensively in either of those games, he might win the Conn Smythe and he wins his third Cup as a starter. It would have put him over the top.

In all likelihood, he doesn't get in with his current resume and he doesn't get another shot at it.

I hope he took more than enough time to get ready so he don't get back and let in 2-3 easy goals right away.

Highly doubtful, but the first few games will be a struggle...Knowing Ozzie and come March/April/May/June, he'll be ready

Have confidence, guy!

It's a damn shame. A fantastic playoff performance to crown a career is probably bleached out of history because of failure on the part of his teammates.

Do you think if Howard pulls a Hasek and stinks the place up he'll get pulled and Osgood could have another 2008?

It's possible, but he hasn't played in a long time and isn't likely to get much work to get in gear. Plus Ozzie has historically been a guy that plays better with more work and isn't great at spot starting.

In 2008, he played in 16 games from February through April, so even though he had a couple weeks off before he came in to relieve Hasek in the playoffs, he wasn't stone-cold. He might get three or four starts down the stretch here, but I have a hard time seeing him getting into a groove in that time.

You never know, though. It seemed crazy to think about it back in 2008. I would advise against rooting for Ozzie to see the net in the 2011 playoffs, because it probably means the Wings are already toast and Babs is desperate.

Something else to consider from the 2008 run - the Wings held opponents to 23.6 shots a game, and it wasn't because teams were sitting on big leads and trapping. That team was dominant defensively. 30+ shots against three times in 22 games and never more than 33 - in the playoffs. Wow.

2009? 28.1 shots against/game, 10 with 30+ against and one 46.

I'll put it this way - if the Wings hold the opposition to 23.6 shots a game this year (assuming the opposition doesn't score on all of their first 6 shots every game), we won't see Ozzie in the net and they'll go a long, long way. If they give up 32.25 shots a game like they did last year, they won't go far no matter who's in the net.

I'll pull that one point out because I think it's important for everyone to note.

The Wings' WORST game in shots against in the 2008 Cup run was just a hair above their AVERAGE shots against in the 2010 playoffs.

i am going to my death bed knowing that Patrick Sharp cost us that Cup, and i hadn't thought of it this way until now, but possibly Ozzie's shot at the HHoF. i absolutely detest that guy.

This will give Howie a run for his money, not a bad thing in my mind. Its a win win situation either Howie will play better or Ozzy will step up big and taking the #1 spot come playoff time. Doubt that both will suck.

I hope he comes back good enough to goaltend every other game down the stretch. Wishful thinking perhaps.
