What about the flipping ceiling falling apart mid games? It seemed to be raining asbestos during the last game I went to 3 weeks ago near 320 ..do they have any plans on fixing that or just the seats so they can charge more?

Well, at least he came right out and said it. MSG caters is business model for coorperate consumption.

The fact that they have "individuals" as fans/customers is only a bonus to them, hardly enters their minds, and does not factor in their decisions.

What seems to be lost on MSG is the fact that corporations buy these tickets to entertain their clients. Hockey does not translate well on television, which has always been its Achilles heal. If kids growing up never see the game live, they will never become a fan. Thus, will never see free hockey tickets as a highly desired perk. Therefore corporations will have a lower appetite for hockey. What MSG is currently doing is not only offensively greedy, its also quite stupid from a long term business point of view...

Does anyone have the interactive seating chart for next season, that was posted in another thread? I'm about to speak to my ticket rep about my relocation, and want to be able to look over that chart first.

Larry Brooks tweeted
"According to longtime NYR season subscriber, MSG is not allowing downgrades. Either pay new price or forfeit tickets. Brutal, just brutal."

Any truth here?

Not to say you don't have a point, but the era of large, affordable HD TV's is killing this theory.

If this is true, it is very disturbing.

Having spent 35 years in corporate America, I can tell you that hockey tickets have always been a great corporate perk. In cities like New York, Philadelpia and DC (where I have done business) I could get a basketball ticket anytime I wanted one but always had to stand in the corporate line for hockey tickets.

And with HD TVs, hockey translates oin TV just fine. That's the biggest reason ratings are rising so much.

My buddy has season tickets in 318 and he told me that his section is gonna be closed off for the playoffs due to renovations and that they're relocating him to the other side of the ice in the 340s somewhere. Anyone else have this issue?

As much as I don't like what MSG is doing to fans, I have to think this is an exaggeration. Until they know who is renewing and who isn't, they can't commit to a downgrade for anyone. I would hope that after they get all of the renewals in, and have an idea of what unsold inventory they have, they will listen to downgrade requests. Losing all of those seats in the 300's behind the nets isn't going to help matters. And given the low increases in the 300's and 400's, I suspect there won't be much turnover upstairs.

Besides, it's not like Uncle Larry hasn't tried to stir up the pot before.

this could mean you have to pay for your current assigned price level before you "downgrade". I would think management would at least try to acomodate

I think this is the layout for the 2011-2012 season.

Yeah - there's going to be lots of changes to the 400 level after next year (expect more price increases too)

Next thing you know they will make John Giannone replace Sam Rosen to force fans to go to more games so they don't have to hear his voice on television

You're absolutely right, but Cablevision (or hockey team owners/sports team owners in general) is not the only corporation that has no interest in thinking about the long term. It's true for most corporations--they don't care or plan for the long term, they only care about increasing the revenue for the next quarter and pumping up their share price.

For Ranger fans this is pretty much what the model has been like for years--corporations have always owned them and have been more interested in the bottom line than having a team built to win multiple rounds in the playoffs year after year. The difference now is that "corporate America" has much more control over prices (and government) than they have ever had before. In the past, it made sense for the Ranger organization to be good citizens (giving $5 tickets to high school students, keeping prices upstairs affordable for fans etc, doing fan giveaway nights 15 or more times a year), but now they don't have to care. All they have to do is keep their corporate clients happy. Unfortunately, I don't see the Rangers changing anytime soon.

I'm glad I extricated myself from this situation a few years ago. I'm more than happy to watch from the comfort of my home on a nice big TV with a 6 pack of craft beer that costs as much as a Bud Light in MSG.
