Intriguing. Value wise, I'd think its near even. With that said, without someone coming in to replace Streit, I think we're just spinning our tires on the Island. Right now with Streit out, our #1 is Macdonald, a very solid player, but even the biggest AMac fans will tell you he isn't ready to be a #1 (Don't think he'll ever be a #1 on a playoff team, maybe a #3)

I think Isles are better off waiting for Nino to mature and play Parentueau then trading Streit for Eberle, even though I would love to have Eberle as an Islander, just not at the cost of Streit. Value wise tho, good trade imo

Uh, no. That would be like the Isles trading Okposo for Tom Gilbert.

Except Streit is 10x better than Gilbert.

Streit didn't enter the NHL until the age Gilbert is right now. Gilbert's been an extremely consistent puck-mover and is second among all Oilers in TOI/G. The best part? Defencemen don't typically peak until 27/28. He's shown every sign of being a 50+ point defender and has already hit 45 once.

Meanwhile, Streit is 33 and will be a low-end player at the same time Eberle is becoming a star.

Streit didn't start playing big minutes until signing with the Islanders. He's a very young 33 imo. I don't see him slowing down anytime soon. Streit is also on a much friendlier contract which is very important to Wang. When healthy Streit, was considered by some a top 15 defenseman in the league. He's a +8 in two years on the Island when the team as a whole must be something close to -75 or so. He's our best defensive defenseman and our best offensive defenseman imo.

If you read my post, I agree that Eberle has immense value. And long term, if the Isles can fill two top-4 defenseman then I do that deal. But the isles have no one to replace Streit in the near future other than De Haan, but that would leave still one hole in the top 4.

My post is that the Isles are better off with Streit and Parenteau then Eberle and whoever they fill the top 4 with

Gilbert is extremely soft, turnovers the puck in dangerous areas and his offensive numbers have declined the last 2 years. Stop pimping him like he's valuable.

Streit is legitly a top 10-20 defenseman in the NHL he does it all

Gilbert's contract has a lower cap-hit and runs a year longer than Streit's. How is Streit's, then, "much friendlier"?

By some Islanders fans you mean?

And yet without Streit for an entire season, the Isles are -30 as a team- a relatively respectable 24th. They were far and away the league's worst team in Streit's first season on Long Island and 26th last year. If he's so important, why has Andrew MacDonald seamlessly replaced him and why are the Isles maintaining a better goal differential without Streit than in either season with?

Streit when healthy is a top 15 defenceman in the NHL. The Isles have a better team this year then last year to start on your last point. Injuries, Grabner stepping in, Tavares, players playing over their head has them looking like they are "better" without Streit. If Streit wasn't injured they'd be higher up in the standings for sure. You are really under selling Streit. Almost positive you have never watched him play consistently.

Gilbert is just terrible. Streit is as good/if not better then a player like Kaberle offensively and is perfectly fine defensively. Streits contract is friendly because its cheap for a top 15 defenceman

The Oil are not in a position to overpay to get a player. That said, /thread.
