Giroux, O'Marra & Vande Velde

It's not yet confirmed by the Oilers or the Barons but TPS has learned that the Edmonton Oilers have recalled Ryan O'Marra, Chris Vande Velde and Alex Giroux and that all three will be in the line up on Thursday night. The trio arrived in Edmonton just after midnight after playing in Grand Rapids on Wednesday evening.

Good for Vande Velde, getting to see him and Hartikainen make their NHL debut's will be worthwhile in a game that otherwise would've been pretty low on story lines.

Are they short of bodies on the NHL roster? I hope O'Marra and Vande Velde show that they can be useable 4th liners in the future. The time is running out for these kids.

Nice. Hopefully they can stick around for the rest of the season so the Oilers can get a good picture of whether they should be re-signed or not next year (in the case of O'Marra and Giroux).

Hopefully O'Marra changes his number though.

I'm just as excited for Vande Velde as I am for Hartkainen's debut. I mean if it is confirmed.

While this is great for these guys, I long for the days when the Oil would bring up an unknown in the playoffs, like Buckburger and I think Buekeboom as well. Maybe it's just me though. Wasn't Tikki a call up during the playoffs as well. I'm sure somebody will correct my bad memory.

Gonna be watching O'marra very closely. Not so much for production, more for his number.

Very excited for vande velde and harsky though.

This run of injuries on the Oilers has to be decimating the Barons chances at a playoff spot.

I thought the oilers were at the call up limit already? and yes--this will hurt the Barons chances

I'm pretty excited to see Vande Velde, but why wasn't moran called up? I kind of feel bad for him. Hasn't he been on their top line all year?

There's no limit on emergency call ups. We should be in the clear until the end of the season for this reason.

According to the Email I got from the Oilers this morning, all of them have been officially recalled.

I hope O'Marra can finally find some consistency at the NHL level, because clearly the 4th line center spot, and bottom-6 spots in general, are up for grabs.

I'm also excited to see how Vande Velde has adjusted to the pro game, he had a strong camp, IIRC.

Yep when it's due to injuries they get unlimited call-ups. It's like bowling pins... they keep setting new ones up and they get knocked down again... and the saga continues.

Does anyone know if the plan is to send them back down for fridays game? Just thinking with the dog fight they are in that they will be needed, then again can a player really start playing this many games in a row?

VandeVelde is only 1 word, but I don't think he'll mind if his jersey says Vande Velde on the back, as long as it's got the Oiler logo on the front. Good for him to get his first call to the show. I guess this means Horcoff won't be playing tonight afterall.

I'm happy for the young guys getting the call, but a little scared to think about what the lineup might look like with all 3 in it.

Paajarvi - Cogliano - Eberle
Jones - O'Marra - Omark
Giroux - Fraser - Reddox
Jacques - VandeVelde - MacIntyre

Forgot about Gagner...that's even worse.

But it also may mean that Horcoff isn't out afterall.

Looking at the lineup, maybe, but I would argue last year's Oilers were worse and so were the 70s Caps.

Jacques got injured too. He might not play tonight, I think Hartikainen will be in the lineup.
