Who who nab a player, to pay him salary just to see him walk on July 1?
2 reasons.

First and foremost is to see if the guy can handle NHL minutes. Most of the players that are in this situation are tweeners.

Second, the team is giving him an audition to see if he's worthy of another chance.

BOLD: Playoff bound teams do this every year...

He's an RFA in July, so there's a slight possibility someone may want to pick him up.

Er, I'm pretty sure the player can't play in the regular season either, not just playoffs. So again, you'd just be taking on salary for a player in the AHL who could walk at the end of the season, which throws out the whole "audition" notion.

I'm wondering if it's the same circumstance for Matt Lashoff?
i thought that was only trades? you trade after the deadline, player cant play in the NHL. waivers i thought could still happen. guess not... :/

Waiver claims absolutely can play the rest of the regular season. No go as far as playoffs are concerned though.

He can't play in the reg season or playoggs at all if he was claimed, ppl shouldn't talk if they don't know, that being said no one claimed him because he's a FA at the end of the season,so why claim him without being able to play on the team, hed be a ahl pick up I'm guessing if he was picked up

He had a shot in Boston and Tampa he just didn't play well defensively.

Very good skater though, if he has improved in the last couple of years he has enough talent offensively to play in the NHL.

Why? They're both garbage. Pedigree means nothing years later when your still yet to crack an NHL roster full time. Lashoff and Lee are the definitions of first round busts.

Lashoff may still have potential, but IMO he has plateaued as a top 4, PP QB in the AHL.

Watched about 10 Marlies games this season and none of which he impressed me anymore then Danny Richmond.

Personally, I would prefer so see a guy like Simon Gysbers get a shot.

So Im guessing its different than for if a player is playing in a different league and signs with a team after the trade deadline? Because the Rangers did it with strudwick a few years back when their defense was decimated by injuries.

How's he terrible? I could of said the same thing about Carey Price 2 seasons ago. Lashoff is being given another chance as Price was given too.. Of course there both different as Price was highly touted and Lashoff is a no body.. But if he's better then Lebda or Komisarek then He's good enough.
