And people also think that California is going to get the big one. A tid-bit that people don't know is that there is a bigger fault line runs right by the Mississippi river. They had an earthquake at one time that changed the course of the Mississippi River. 1812 i think?

Ni, it isn't linear. It is exponential. The quake in Japan was about 8,000 times stronger than the 6.3 in Christchurch. So, it was probably almost 10,000 times stronger than the 5.0 in Montreal. Basically, earthquakes less than 5.0 are minor.
