It's time for Shelley to go into the pressbox. Put in Nodl or Zherdev, whoever is healthier and working harder in practice. We need a 4th line that can create havoc again, so Carcillo needs to be with Powe and Betts.

Hartnell-Richards-Versteeg
JVR-Carter-Leino
Nodl-Giroux-Briere
Carcillo-Betts-Powe

You could switch the three RWs up any way you want, it would be better than the stupid lines he's running out there now.

What are you talking about. The players need to execute on whatever line they are slotted, period. The players were beat up, too many practices, etc....so the coach did not skate them for a morning skate, gave them the day off from practice on wednesday, and look at the effort they give. They have the talent, just lack the work ethic to get it done.

When do people realize it is not the coach, it is the players on the ice who are not getting the job done?

You love a bunch of guys who get paid lots of money to play a game for a living. Then they go out and lose twice to a team with 1/2 the talent? A bunch of underachievers are rearing their ugly head under a different coach. I am embarrassed at the effort and losing to the Thrashers after getting their egos handed to them just a week ago.

Thrashers outwork Flyers again, win in shootout

The Philadelphia Flyers took to the ice Thursday night in Atlanta to take on a Thrashers team that had embarrassed them on Philly home ice just five nights earlier. There was definitely an added incentive to extract some revenge on a Thrashers club that is in a fight for their very playoff lives.

Law of Averages. We've owned them up until this season since the lockout. It was only a matter of time before they got the upper hand.

That and they're a desperate team. The Flyers are not. Maybe barely sneaking into the playoffs last season is a good thing for the Flyers.

can't blame this one entirely on boosh. defense still looks all over the place at times (especially on the little goal) and our offense is still sleeping.

but yeah. boosh was bad.

Bobrovsky or Boucher is not the problem, certainly not helping with some soft goals, but not the problem. I like Bobrovsky better only because I would rather give him the chance knowing you have Boucher who can come in and fill the backup role. I do not know if the reverse would work, plus the Bobrovksy of the first part of the season is the guy who can steal you a period, a game, or maybe even a series.

Now is when it would be nice to have a goalie capable of bailing this team out for a game or two so the rest of the guys can get their heads straight. Sure, can't blame everything on Boosh or Bob, but if they were capable of stealing a game it would be a huge boost for everyone. As much as we tried to say it wasn't, that has always been our weakness this year.

When the offense is generating ZERO shots on offense in the first 5 minutes what do you expect. This team is laying down before the game even starts.

How about taking the game to the opposition, holding the puck and wearing the opposition down, winning with hard work accompanied by more skill than the opponent?

Flyers offense generated ENOUGH to win last night. We lost because boosh was soft on all the goals and couldnt come though in the SO. Richards didnt help anything. What is his deal? Someone needs to rock him, he only plays hard anymore when he is pissed.

They've been doing that ALL YEAR up until about 2-3 weeks ago. They're gassed, it's obvious. The entire team routinely gets beat to the puck on almost every dump in, loose puck and breakaway. I've come to terms with this and the fact that yes, when our skaters are gassed, it would be nice to have someone between the pipes capable of stealing a game or two and putting us on their shoulders. We sacrificed that insurance for our amazing depth that will ultimately push us ahead of teams with lesser depth in 7 game series.

I guess it is too much to ask for of our goaltenders to be the last line of defense heading into the playoffs.

So you want the game to be 5 on 1. The team has to play defense in front of the goalie. They aren't doing that. Crappy passing. Failed clears. Sometimes, both of our goalies are doing everything they can to keep the sleeping Flyers in the game.

I don't think anyone is disputing that the team defense is putrid right now. What some are saying, however, is that we have not seen a complete-game stand-on-your-head game stolen by either goaltender this year. In fact, we presently expect 1-2 questionable goals per game in the midst of the debacle in front of the goaltenders.

That's why the true blame lies with Holmgren. If this team doesn't win the cup this year there will be all kinds of excuses that are going to be made as to why they couldn't do it. Some will blame the coach, others the players, still others will offer a myriad of reasons.

The real reason is Holmgren. The Flyers have had problems with goaltending for YEARS now. We talk about it every year. It's always the same thing over and over. Good GM's are able to identify their teams' weaknesses and then make moves to address them. What did Holmgren do? He goes out and signs a guy with a degenerative disorder in his hip who was out of the league. Goes and gets a waiver wire dump and makes him our starter. Signs a rookie who no one on this earth knows what to expect out of him come playoff time, or will go with a past-his-prime Boucher.

As Flyers fans we ask, every year, about the goaltending. Maybe we should be asking ourselves when this organization is going to get a real GM. We haven't had one since Keith Allen.

In general, I agree 100% with Holmgren's determination to not put a star – or even an above-average G – in nets. The Emery injury, though, was impossible to see coming; most thought that if Emery failed, it would be further to flaming out over work ethic as with what happened in Ottawa. As well, Bobrovsky was a happy surprise that just managed to save Holmgren's much larger miscue of overpaying for the mediocre – and seriously injured – Michael Leighton based on his hit-and-miss contribution to the magic of SC Playoffs 09-10. Few expected Bob to grab the #1 slot right out of training camp.

Twelve shots over two period, TWELVE. Against a team who smacked them around just a week ago. This is not about Boucher or Bobrovsky, it is about the fwds not thinking they can play a fancy game and make stupid, low % passes. There may have been a sporatic offense, but not a consistent offense that could be sustainable.

Where have you guys been all season long? I thought it was obvious that our Achille's heel is our goaltending.

They found enough energy in the 3rd period to make a game of it. Sopt making excuses. Did you know Laviolette gave them the day off the ice on wednesday and no morning skate on thursday? So what is the excuse for coming out flat in a game that should have been about revenge for getting embarrassed on your home ice in front of your home fans?

Please, listen to the comments. Listen to what the coach and the leaders are telling you. Do not listen to Richards or Carter and that the "effort was there, we just did not get the results".

Prime example against the Panthers the other night, both Giroux and Carter had clearing attempts which got blocked by the points and resulted in a goal. If the fwds cannot play in their own zone, making good passes and apply the pressure on the other end the goalies are going to get hung out to dry.

Funny how quick people will turn on a team once they hit a little rough patch. It's not as if the players don't know they aren't getting the job done. They have been in first place since the beginning of January. Give them some time to work out of this rut and they'll be fine going into the playoffs.

There's too much leadership spread throughout this team for them to collapse and lose in the first round.

In another thread, someone posted that this team didn't have any heart. Give me a break.

Sadly the "rough little patch" has been going on for around 2 months. Thats alittle more then little.
