I do for most stuff, but for certain things, like sticks, I can't just blindly buy them online, I have to hold them in my hands to see how they feel.

The nearest facility is Ontario Center Ice, just curious to know if anyone has played there. What's it like?

I see they have pick-up hockey and stick time on Fridays. I'm thinking about going, but I'm a little apprehensive because I haven't played in so long and most of my experience is with inline.

i have played here many times and at ice town in riverside. if you have played before then pick up wont be a problem at all. stick time gets crowded sometimes so i would suggest to just dive right in to pick up. i live in the high desert as well and i drive down every weekend to get my hockey fix. wouldnt be bad if gas was $1.00/gal. the level of play is hard to compare because riverside has so many different leagues for different skill level. but ontario is very competitive.

Yep I'm in the exact same position as you. That's why I'm glad I found the league in Fontana, at least it's a little closer.

I've been trying to get someone out here in Barstow to start playing with me, that way I have someone to carpool with. It's a little hard to convince someone to drop $1,000+ for hockey gear when they've never played before though.

Whatever happened to "Power Play Skating Arena" in Hesperia? I called them to ask about Hockey, and they had no clue what I was talking about. I recall they used to have roller hockey there for a little while.
