McKeen's Draft Awards

Strongest Player: Phil Oreskovic The reviews on his effort and consistency are mixed but this kid is built like a brick .. firm and sturdy on his feet - guys just bounce off him at open ice.

Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster.

Is it just me, or has JFJ gone hunting for rough housers?

Dhalberg/Oreskovic and Berry all sound like people you don't really want to tangle with, though I must confess I've never seen any of them play.

Welcome to the board, always glad to see new Leafs fans

I think thats largely to be expected, the Leafs have been leaning towards playing a physically dominating game pretty consistently since the mid 90's throughout the tenure of a few GM's now.
JFJ's earlier acquisitions have seemed to follow that trend.

good to see someone that won't be shy about taking people out in front of our own net. He should atleast be a decent farm hand.

Hrmm, I suppose that's true to an extent. Feel free to mention someone I'm missing, but since his tenure began JFJ has added Joe (not even going to attempt to spell his last name), Marchment, Johannson, Kilger, Leetch and Francis. I agree on the Marchment/Kilger front, but the others don't strike me as particularly physical, though I agree that it has been a pretty persistent trend during the 90's. The draft would certainly suggest that he's going that route however, or perhaps it's just one giant coincidence

I've seen him play, he's a solid dfensemen who needs to work on his skating, his style of play is very similar to former Brampton Battalion Jay Harrison, But Phil is tougher and is a little better skater. He needs to work on his skating and improve his positioning. If he can put it together he'll be a great stay at home dmen in the future.

Personally I think your better off pushing the closet Canes/Habs fan angle, much better evidence to support that theory then Philly IMHO.

You guys just drafted one of my good friends.

I won't get into his extra-curricular type stuff as it's inappropriate and doesn't concern people here, but in regards to hockey, you guys got a NUTCASE of a physical player. He'll go through a brick wall, and if a coach asks him to 'rough' a player up, he'll literally try and end the guy's life.

Way to go, his family is ECSTATIC about staying here.

LOVE the sound of that! We need defensemen like that! Sounds like a very good 3rd rounder

I'm very happy with this pick. Hopefully he turns out to be a beast that puts fear into the opposition and he can stick with the parent club.

Thanks for your info. That sounds like he is a warrior who is never shy away from anyone (maybe other than his coach), but will he tend to take too much stupid penalities? Does his skating good enough to catch up with faster opponents without grabbing, holding or hooking? In short, does he have enough hockey sense/hockey IQ to make it to the NHL?
