According to the Admirals Roundtable:

"Goaltender Atte Engren arrived in Milwaukee last night. He watched the game from press row."

Dex is hurt, Jeremy Smith may need somebody else to play a game or two. Chet Pickard was dressed, but I don't know if he is up to the task. Engren may get a chance to play and show what he can do in the AHL regular season.

We've been discussing this in the Ads thread, but when asked about it last night...Lambert did not rule out Engren playing this season.

Engren is the real deal. He stood out as the best goalie two summer's ago at prospect camp, but admittedly struggled this past summer and at the start of this year in Finland. However, he finished the year with a .918 SV% and 2.84 GAA in 51 games and even more impressively posted a .940 SV% from November 16th onward.

Very agile goalie. Fluid skater. Always square to the shooter and teases you to beat him glove side before he snatches it away. Great glove hand. I think once he adjusts to the smaller rinks and the new angles and speed of the play that he'll shoot up the depth charts quickly.

Ryan Ellis had a 4 point (1G 3A) game last night to get him across the 100 point plateau.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but it needs to be said somewhere.

Andy Miele is a free agent. He has 71 pts for Miami (OH) in 38 games. He is one of two people with a shot at the Hobey Baker this year, and we do like our Hobey winners. He will obviously get signed by someone, so why not us? His only negative is size (5'8" 150), but he'll gain weight and his size doesn't seem to be an issue in the NCAA. I'd love to see him added to our prospect pool.

That would be a bad habit against better shooters, especially NHL level.

Sounds good. We'll need someone if Rinne becomes too expensive. Too bad Poile didn't work a longer deal...

Sorry, I didn't see your post! Thanks for the info. The Admirals have four games in six days starting tomorrow. All are against divisional opponents. Engren may get a game of the three played in Milwaukee.

How they can keep this kid out of the NHL next year is beyond me. Even if you don't play him on D, give him a try at F.

He'll be in the AHL. That seems like a big enough leap for one season, at his age.

landshut, the team of david elsner, announced today that elsner likely won't be back because he plans to leave for north america.

no word on where he could play, but i guess this means the CHL is an option for elsner.

Or Milwaukee. Paul Fenton was rumored to be interviewing Europeans to build up the roster. Could be interesting with the metric ton of Junior players who could be coming to Milwaukee.

I don't think Elsner is ready for Milwaukee. I'd like to see if he can duplicate the success of countryman Tom Kuehnhackl in the CHL before rushing him to play 6 minutes a night in the AHL.

just curious: why do you think he isn't ready? what is missing?

i ask because i'm not sure myself. he played in a smaller role in landshut and did fine, but he proved in the DNL play-offs that he's still a scorer in his age group as he was pretty dominant and a major reason his team won the title. so while he had to play a certain role among men, he didn't lose his scoring touch at all.
so i'm not saying he's ready for the AHL, but he might be. especially considering that he will never be a scorer in men's hockey.

Ben Ryan lives to see another college game as ND beats Merrimack 4-3 in OT.

RPI is out with a 6-0 butt hurting from #1 seed North Dakota. So Jeff Foss is available.

Ben Ryan is the only NCAA prospect playing in the tourny, but there was only two to start with.

Portland beats Everett 4-0 in the WHL playoffs. Taking a 1-0 series lead in the first round.

Windsor Spitfires tie up the series with a 4-3 win. Ryan Ellis with a goal and an assist.

I wonder why Taylor Stefishen is never mentioned.

67 points in a partial season with Prince George is pretty decent, even as an overager

Booooooo. Poor Merrimack. Absolutely dominated that game and had 3 very unlucky bounces.

Whenever Watson stares into a mirror he sees Smithson staring back.
