A **** you very much goes out to Matt Cooke for not injuring Ryan McDonagh--though he tried hard enough--and costing his team the game.

POTG: Lundqvist. We aren't in the game in the 3rd period without his strong show in the 1st two periods.

Good: Eminger, Pack Line, Gilroy was sharp in his return, Gabby, Powerplay eventually getting it done

Bad: Beginning of the 5 min major, Girardi was bad w/o Staal

Redden: Cooke's Elbow and the fact his suspension most likely won't be long enough

Something tells me Cooke get 10 games that will leave 2 games before the play offs start for Pitts. No one in Pitts can cry about that--hopefully the NHL says just cuz McD wasn't injured that there's no suspension.

Oh and by the way--way to go Ranger's finally the PP won the game for us.

I think it's pretty obvious at this point that Girardi is benefiting hugely from playing with Staal. Props to him for being good enough to take that and run with it, but he always seems to struggle when Staal is out.

Maaaaybe it's just that he's trying to hard and if he "played his game" he'd be just as good, but so far he just looks like he makes bad decisions when he isn't playing with staal

Just asked Zipay on what he should get.

Should, given his track record RT @nysportsfan1030: @stevezipay what do you think Cooke gets? I'm thinking 8-10

Girardi without Staal is a second pairing d-man.

With Staal, though, he's a legitimate 1st pairing d-man.

You can either say Staal carries him, or they just have really good chemistry. I like the latter.

Yeah it'd be an interesting experiment to see how Staal would play without Girardi. I know he did for a few games this year but I don't remember how he looked. I seem to remember Sauer taking his place and that pairing doing well, but I'm not sure

50 point season for Dubinsky. He has become so good in winning loose puck battles along the wall and then using his strength to create a scoring chances.

To me, it looks like it should be Gaborik from McCabe and Stepan, not Dubinsky and Prospal. Stepan passed directly to McCabe, who shot; the puck didn't seem to hit Dubinsky, but the rebound came to Gaborik who shoveled it in.

Prospal was on the ice, but not involved in the scoring play at all, and unless McCabe's shot hit Dubinsky, the 2nd assist should be D-Step's. Of course, changing the scoring would put Dubi back at 49 points...

Yeah, involved. Think being traded had him worried? He is playing awesome right now. Shades of how Dubi stepped up another level late last year.
I think he is growing as a player. I do think it is possible being traded was on his mind. I obviously don't know him well personally but I get the sense that he could be sensitive to that type of thing. Love to see the homegrowns carry us:

Henrik (of course)
Dubinsky
Callahan
Staal
Girardi

and getting significant contributions from:
McD
Stepan
Anisimov

Guys like Eminger stepped up but Girardi did struggle a lot without Staal today. Makes you appreciate him even more and realize that his contract is a steal.
