Cooke's slewfoot on Stepan started our comeback back in December as well. What a ****ing moron he is...

And people complain about Avery, but Cooke is way way waaaaaaay worse, in both pulling off dirty **** and hurting his own team. It's not even close.

McGuire was saying 8 games. Would love to see that.

Great opportunity for two things to happen:

1) The NHL to send a message to a repeat and obvious offender. If the extent of the injury is not a factor, let's see the NHL set that precedent by a levying a big suspension regardless of the fact that McDonagh stayed in the game.

2) It's a chance for Mario to put his money where his mouth is.

The old style NHL retribution where a guy like McSorley or Laraque or Probert pounds a guy to pieces isn't going to work here.
Cooke is a coward, and the sneak attack is what he does. It could have been a serious injury to Ryan McD.
This is not pesky behaviour by an agitator, it is repeated potentially career limiting or ending attacks.

This requires the league brass to step up or look like complete buffoons.

And some policing of their own house would not be such a bad idea for Lemieux and Bylsma.

Amazingly disappointed/confused by Bylsma. Could not for the life of me understand what he was complaining about. Both the Cooke and Niskanen penalties are easy — Niskanen is automatic.

Cooke is hands-down the dirtiest player in the NHL. With all of the talk, lately about head-shots, and taking into account his history of cheap-shots; I think he should be suspended for the remainder of the season.

I wonder what Mario has to say about this? God, I hate Mario...always have.

Anybody putting Avery and Cooke into the same camp has only to check the record.
Pretty twisted, isn't it, when a guy is forced to take anger management counselling for flapping his lips?
And we then see this mutant out there trying to **** up players all the time.

He thought Dubi was in the crease, I think on Gabby's goal. I think he was working the refs before that for absolutely no reason. As you said, the penalties were no brainers.

I really haven't been this angry in quite some time.

Hoping for something good to come from NHL head office.

Cooke is a piece of ****. The NHL needs to send a message suspend him for the rest of the season including the playoffs.

Got your backs Rangers fans. I hope Ryan McDonaugh is ok. Matt Cooke needs to be suspended for the rest of the season and in the playoffs and he, Bylsma, Shero and Mario need to be fined. There is NO excuse for this behavior anymore. I hope I get to see Ryan when I come to MSG in April.

I have great respect for Bylsma overall, he seems like a straight-up guy. Maybe he was just trying to create just a dribble of goodwill from the officials, probably a lost cause.

I missed the game today, darn it, but will watch the replay.
From what I read it was a pretty chippy affair.

He's fine. He actually took a penalty late in the game, got a breakaway coming out of the box, and got an assist after Stepan buried the rebound.

“I don’t think you can talk about eliminating head shots from the game, as we have, as an organization, and not expect that to be examined, as what looks to be contact right to the head on the play,” Bylsma said. “The league will look at that and treat it as such. We took a five-minute major in a situation where it was a tight game. Anytime you take a penalty like that, you’re putting your team down for five minutes, you’re putting your team in a tough spot. It’s an undisciplined play. Up to that point, I thought the game was played pretty well by our team. We were doing a lot of good things and wanted to continue to play the way we were. That put us in a situation where it changed the game.”
Bylsma calling for interference on that goal was ridiculous but these comments seem fairly reasonable, no? He knows Cooke needs to be suspended.

Avery doesn't end other players seasons or careers. End of story as far as comparing Avery to Cooke in that regard.

The thing is both are good third line players or have been. Cooke can't control the urge to hurt other players. The thing with Savard last year should have been a wake up call for the Pens organization and I think he's been taken aside by Bylsma already this season and promised to change his game. So much for that. When an NBC telecast announcer says 8 games you can figure Cooke is going to get at least around that.

One of the funny things about it at least from perusing the Pens forum here is a lot of them are blaming the Niskanen highstick for them losing the game. The accumulation of events starting with Cooke's elbow doesn't figure into it. Of course it's making an excuse for a guy who ****ed his team over.

He was complaining after the stoppage when Niksanen got the high stick penalty.

What else can he say? The organization has had a lot to say about hits to the head. He has a guy who excels at doing it. At some point, it comes down to integrity. And in this case, it was about as clear-cut as you can get.

I think the more telling sign will be his reaction to the punishment that will be handed down.
