I don't believe i saw lindy on the ice. The players are professionals and they need to act play like pro's. Last night will be a great learning experience for them and i believe they will come out flying tomorrow night.
You answered your own question noticed Stanley Cup finals isn't in bold. To all on here bashing me tell what great coaching moves has Ruff done? Has he motivated the players to skate there a** off every night? Has he come up with a PP system that seems to be effective? Has chosen to start/sit Miller at the most opportune time to give the team the best chance to win? Has he even been able to find consistent lines that work? Tell me what has he done?

For the record, I do think we'll make the playoffs and hopefully give a team a run for their money. As I said in the original post, I think we'd probably have to play sub-.500 hockey from this point on to miss, unless one of the teams below us runs the table or something. I do think there's about a 30% chance that one of those two things could happen, though.

I've always been a Ruff supporter but if we do end up missing the playoffs in "choking" fashion (i.e. the first scenario above) I wouldn't mind seeing him go.

Also, this thread wasn't made as a reaction to last night's game except in the sense that it did cause me to think about how we're definitely not a lock for the playoffs yet.

There is no team in the NHL that plays their ***** off every night. Thats a false goal for fans to have of a coach. Its never going to happen.

I'm still shaking my head at your assertion in a previous post that the 06-07 team was the best in Sabres history. You can't possibly believe that. It wasn't even as good or as deep as the 05-06 team, let alone the best in Sabres history.

@OP,

No, he should be here for the start of next season. But if he falters, don't wait to pull the plug and bring up Dineen.

I'd give him one more year with Pegula and Co.

Ruff is taking draws, nutrition specialist, player development coordinator, strength/conditioning coach, personal chef, and massage therapist. If the team fails it is sooooooo his fault, and his fault alone.

Oh yea he also has a small hand in head coaching.
It's funny how some people have changed their tune from "Ruff is a good coach" to "Ruff isn't actually responsible for anything, but we should keep him anyway."

Anyway, my stance on Ruff is this. He deserves a fair amount of credit for the turnaround. Worse coaches don't implement the changes he has. They keep trying to stick square pegs in round holes and lose their jobs (Maclean, John), but nothing Ruff's done has been particularly novel. He changed up the system because he needed more all around offense with Roy on the shelf and whatever he was trying at the beginning of the year wasn't working. Roy's injury also opened up a top six role for Ennis and made Vanek a much more integral part of the lineup, as well as the successful Pominville/Vanek combination, all things people were calling for at various times before they actually became practice. Nothing he's done has really been of the "eureka" variety, while a lot more of his decisions have me saying "finally."
