Zubov sets bar

Zubov sets bar with 4 mil per for 3 years
Aucoin refuses 3.2 for 4 years ( holding out for 4mil per)
what were both getting last year ? PRE 24%rollback ?

Are they trying to set a HIGH BAR all over again ?

Zubov was making 6 mil/year prior to the lockout.

Maybe he is a hockey player with a grade 8 education and no experience in the real world.

I hope that is the case and not the other.

Aucoin would be a much more valable Dman than Hamrlik, plus at 4 million maybe Foote or Hatcher would make more sense...although I think Hatcher will be signed for 3.

Problem is you can't "set" a bar with the current setup. I know that's what the media is raving about, but with a cap teams can't spend senseless. You got to spend according to your budget. When the teams with money are done spending, there will still be UFAs out there that will have to accept lower contracts, which will "lower" the bar.

Take Aucoin, if no one has room for him for more than $3M/year, he's going to sign for that amount, regardless of what he feels he's worth. On the other hand, if on 29 teams just one is willing to pay him $4M, then he gets that amount, but his value for the 29 other teams is still $3M/year and they won't sign an equivalent player at a penny more than that.

The reason I take Aucoin, he is a big minute guy and he can play the game both ways and plays with a mean streak...Hamrlik doesn't bring that to the table at all.

If Aucoin isn't available I wouldn't mind getting Hamrlik though.

I would take Aucoin over Hamrlik as well. Imagine Aucoin and Souray on the pp for us. That would be a goalie's nightmare

Will BG offer 3.42M which was the money Breezey was going to make? Let's hope so, Aucoin is a major upgrade over Patrice Paris Brisebois...

Aucoin is overrated. The more he plays, the more tired he gets and turns the puck over.

Hamrlik seems like another Malakhov to me at this point in his career. No thanks.

I would sign Foote or Stevens (and rearrange our scheme) or even Rafalski ahead of these guys. Less money and we can go get a winger.

I'm not sure if these guys would sign for less money. Maybe Stevens, but he's too old if you ask me.

If we could get Stevens for really cheap (which I really doubt) it would be huge. He would help so much the developpment of Komi, it would be unbeleivable!

But realisticly, if we can't get Aucon, my next choice would be to sign Ratjhe (cheeper) and get a good forward

Guys who can skate Very well pass the puck very well and check players without holding them are the best. Basically I'm hoping we can get Scott or Rafalsky (or both...scratch a forward) it would be awesome.

Aucoin is too expensive. He doesn't have a mean streak, and I don't see him as being that reliable in man to man coverage.

I do not get this fascination Hab fans have with Aucoin.

As far as Zubov setting a bar, I agree with the poster that stated it's difficult if not impossible to set a bar in this new NHL. That said, if Zubov has set any type of bar, that is perfectly fine by me; let other teams take large percentages of their payroll and spend it on few players. Leaves more options for Montreal.

Finally someone see's that Aucoin is overrated. He plays tough when needed, but I am curious to see how he does without the stability of Kenny Jonsson who was truly the backbone of the NYI defense.
