Oh no wait the first hit by Eric to the upper body caused a knee injury then the stick to the head Friday night caused another knee injury.
I don't think he'd be playing if he was SO susceptible to a concussion that a high stick would give him one. Thats a pretty regular happening in this sport.

It could be a concussion I guess but I don't see why he wouldn't have missed more time when he got the harder hit and I don't see why they'd risk his health playing him if he were especially weak in that area now.

Why would an organization hide a concussion?

hope Staal is ok!

So what are the arguments saying that it IS a concussion against the arguments saying it is NOT?

I don't know what this one is about but they were really careful with Gaborik and if you believe Staal got a concussion from his brothers hit and that the Rangers covered it up and that this is a continuation of that, then I don't know how you reconcile the two situations with any sort of logic.
As for why the two situations are different, it's simple. Look at the calendar. When it first came out the other day that Staal wasn't going to be in for the Pittsburgh game, Torts said it was a "body injury" or something to that effect. It was stated that he (and I would assume the Rangers organization) is in "playoff mode" regarding injuries.

Whether he has a rib injury, an injured knee, concussion or a hang nail, you're not going to get a straight answer out of the organization.

The NHL is cracking down on head injuries and the Rangers are really acting weird sounds like a concussion to me.

Nothing dirty to me about Eric Staal's hit.

I was talking about when he was out with a knee injury after the Carolina game where his brother hit him. There is a little merit to the idea it was right around the trade deadline, but considering he twisted his knee on a play and was seen limping after the game, the knee theory seems pretty solid.

This injury, who knows. It could be a concussion or some weird symptoms like that coming from getting smacked by a stick. Don't usually see that but maybe getting hit near his eye is affecting his vision to some degree, dunno.

Sorry Lev, I thought you were talking about the secrecy right now.

Whatever is ailing Staal, I hope he can get over it quickly.

Anyone bring up the possibility that the Rangers sat McD out of practice for more reasons than to give him a rest?

Maybe they didnt want him around to have to deal with all the questions. Hes a rookie, this is huge topic right now. Probably smart to let him stay home while the suspension was being handled by the league.

Seems a lot of the Rangers were tight-lipped today and probably instructed not to comment on it.

Too many RD's.

If Staal+McD were out, and we called up Kundratek, we would have Gilroy and Eminger playing on their unfamiliar sides. Valentenko as a LD is the natural choice.

My guess would be an eye infection/inflammation. He probably looks like Rocky Balboa now and they're waiting for the swelling to go down a la Paul Mara turning into Popeye two seasons ago.

We can't do anything in the playoffs without a healthy Staal.

Fortunately the playoffs don't start for several weeks. He'll be back on the ice well before then.

my guess is residual stability in the joint and general pain from his brothers hit

washington is resting ovi for a week, I reckon NY can do the same for MS

winning that game in pitt without him was huge !

thanks cookie

I just can't imagine why they'd hide it.

Does that mean it's really bad?

Does it have anything to do with the severity of the injury at all?

Do certain injuries get hidden while others don't?

Is there really nothing to it besides the Rangers being weird?

I just don't get it...

I just hope they have the luxury of keeping him out long enough for him to fully heal. If things start getting tighter than they are now, management might feel the need to rush him back.

No they can't, Washington can probably clinch a playoff spot without winning another game. The Rangers, like always, are neck and neck in a race.

If staal has a knee injury and everyone knows, and your the devils last game of the season, flyers situation 2.0 winner makes the playoffs. Rangers #1 defender has a knee injury; any smart player would target staals knee wether it's playing him hard on the boards or chopping at his knees. That's my guess keep it a secret so other teams don't know what's going on and dont target him down the stretch.

And that's what Tortorella specifically told the media..."we're not going to tell you everything about injuries now because teams target those injuries at this time of the year"

Didn't see this posted on here yet, Brooks seems to think it is Staal's knee acting up, not a concussion as so many here have speculated.

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/range...hhmR580E98gDKI

"Marc Staal will miss his second straight game Tuesday night with what is believed to be an aggravation of the left knee injury he originally sustained in Carolina on Feb. 22 that kept the defenseman out of the next three matches. But Ryan McDonagh will play against the Panthers at the Garden as the Rangers seek their fifth straight victory.

The Rangers have been silent regarding both the nature and severity of Staal's injury, but the associate captain has not been on the ice since Friday's game against the Canadiens in which he logged 25:19, including 9:36 in the third period."

Joe Micheletti said on the broadcast last night that the Rangers planned to have/hope Staal skate today. The Rangers are not practicing today but Staal might get on the ice today.

And Brooks clearly states the Rangers have been silent regarding the nature of Staal's injury. Even Brooksie won't out the Rangers on this one.
