If these guys will come here for less money for a package deal the Rangers have to sign them. Nasland and Forsberg are better than any free agent that signed here over the past 10 years (including an aging gretezky) and perhaps better than any player traded here (including jagr)

Rebuilding is about putting young players in positions too succeed not fail. People can talk all they want about the free agents next year and about a prospect most players haven't seen play. (kessler) Nobody knows what the future holds and it seems like these guys want to play here.

who said anything about messing with the rebuild? Signing top talent to play with your younger players isn't the worst thing in the world. Nobody is fooling themselves into thinking the rangers would be transformed into contenders but nasland and forsberg would help the likes of jessiman and dawes reach that next level faster.

losing never helps your team.

When your first line is Forsberg/Naslund and your second line is Nylander/Jagr, you're no longer rebuilding. You're making a playoff drive, and that's when the "lightning in the bottle" logic takes over.

If this team is a mid-seed for the playoffs (and those four players make that very possible), it is incumbent upon the GM to drive the team as far as possible in the playoffs. That means playing the stars over the kids, and it means moving kids for more vets who will help you perform in the playoffs.

The Dolans will not be paying the checks on these guys simply to let them "help the kids."

1. Easy claim; prove it.
2. Then prove that second tier guys like Amonte, Leclair, or Damphousse couldn't accomplish the exact same thing.

Nor does it hurt. Ask Ottawa. Or Tampa.
