Shelley, surgery on fractured orbital bone, out four weeks from 3/22; practiced 3/31

Flyers announced that Jody Shelley will undergo surgery on Thursday on his orbital bone around his left eye and will be sidelined 4 weeks (via Twitter)

Quote:
Shelley sustained a fractured orbital bone under his left eye after being struck by a deflected puck from the stick of Andreas Nodl at practice yesterday.

As CSNPhilly.com reported, Shelley had a nasty gash running from under his eye down the left side of his face alongside his nose.

"Jody Shelley will have surgery on Thursday, March 24 to repair a broken orbital bone on the left side of his face," general manager Paul Holmgren said in a statement. "This injury occurred in practice on Monday. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Guy Lanzi. Jody will be able to return in four weeks"

We're going to fall to the 7 seed now... just you watch, the other teams are going to start beating the crap out of our best players every night.

This is likely the reason: Hit by puck deflection from Nodl in practice.

Tim P. mentioned it on his Twitter yesterday.

Worst case for an enforcer

Scheduled 4 weeks of rehab and after that he won't be able to fight someone for some time. Out for the rest of the saison more or less

I guess you're saying this because he isn't going to play a playoff game. But, I am probably going to be corrected, I think if you play in at least 40 something games (maybe 45) during the season you can be exempt from the playoff game requirement.

some one please correct me

Today, players appearing in 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup Final game for the championship team have their names engraved on the Cup. The NHL makes exceptions for players who do not meet the standard because of injury or other extenuating circumstances.

Agreed. This is worse then Pronger being hurt. Shelly was a key part in keeping Giroux, Richards, Briere, etc all safe. Now who will be out there when Giroux gets cheapshotted? This is a big blow to the team.

This is worse than when Lou Gehrig announced his retirement from baseball.

Today, we're the unluckiest fans in the world.

Prepare to see Richards and Briere get absolutely destroyed by every other player in the league.

It's also worth noting that Nodl's inability to hit the net is now a threat to his teammates' well being.

Damn I was hoping he would score two goals in the final game of the year and a GM would be awestruck by his latent talents and offer us a first for him in the offseason

Don't laugh but the Donald can still intimidate. He even has a new look complete with visor.
