How does he compare to P.J. Axelsson at the same age?

He seems to have the smarts and all around game that if his offensive game doesn't develop as hoped, he could still round out to a player similar to that of Jere Lehtinen. If I were a Sens fan, even that would make me ecstatic.

He's a better prospect than PJ ever was but if Jakob turns out to be an excellent role player like PJ was I'd be very glad... their gameplay isnt far off even though Jakob has more offensive upside

Hrm.

People talk about him being a center, but I thought he was a left winger? We're (and every team in the league) is in pretty dire need for LWs, so I think it would be best to have him there, no?

He plays mostly left wing and at times right wing. Hadn't heard anything about centre before.

He plays as a left winger now, but I know he played as a center in juniors, in 07/08 he had best face-off % in J20 SuperElit North for example.
But he's still taking face-offs sometimes, 65 face-offs so far this season in the SEL.

I definitely would prefer he stuck to the left wing as, assuming he works to the top end of his potential, that would be a great asset to have (obviously any top end player would, but left wings especially.)

Final stats:

GP - 53
G - 18
A - 16
Pts - 34

3rd on team in scoring (1st in goals), good two way game, laser of a shot...only 16 PIMs. On top of that 4 points in 4 games in the playoffs and he has been called up to the WC team for Sweden. I'm excited.

I will like to see him in the line up next season.

Some people have made the comparison to Louis Eriksson, if he becomes half of that I would be estactic.

I don't see it, Jakob is much, much more versatile then Loui.

Do you mean this in the sense that Jakob is more committed to D or did you mix the names up? I know you don't mean that Jakob will be better than Loui.

Silfverbergs development production-wise:
2008/2009 4 pts
2009/2010 16 pts
2010/2011 34 pts

That's some excellent development.
Wonder if he is coming over next season?

i'm fine either way. If he stays in sweden, he better not sign for more than 1 yr, because if he does there is a good chance he passes over his window. If he comes over, i'm perfectly fine with a 1-yr loan back to the SEL if he doesnt make the team.

Worst case scenario is he signs a long-term deal in sweden and disappears from the sens radar.

I'd give him a decent shot at doing so. He guy he's competing with is Bobby Butler, and I'd even give him an edge because Jackob has pretty good size. We're also quite overloaded with playmakers so someone with a decent clapper who can go into the prime scoring areas is also going to be a valuable asset. For what it's worth, Pierre Dorion said he'd be ready about this time of year.

this guy could be a real wildcard for Ottawa in the future. I can see why some scouts think he has really good potential while others dont.

His season this year was good though

His wrist shot is better than his slap shot, and if he's going to be competing with Butler he'll get the job hands down IMO. He's much better defensively, and if the SEL is any indication he is probably better offensively as well. But Silfverberg plays LW and Butler plays RW so I doubt they're actually directly competing.

I don't actually see that much competition for Silfverberg. Michalek/Foligno/Greening/???

I could see Silfverberg slotting in on the second, or even the first line if he continues to improve the way he has. He's only 20 years old so he's something to get excited about.

Also the people saying that he could be better than Loui Eriksson could you elaborate? That's some pretty high praise.

He's most likely staying in Sweden for one more year. He signed a new one year contract this january. He him self have said he's staying in Sweden for one more year.

The only way i can see him signing a contract with the sens is if he's loaned to Brynäs next season. That or if they in some way threaten him with not ever playing for the seators unless he comes over this summer.

Other than that. I don't understand why some of you are so upset that he might not come over untill 12/13? It's every kids dream of playing in the nhl. Just because he feels he isn't ready atm. some of you think he might never come over? please.

Some of you are talking about his shot. I think it might justbe the hardest shot in the league. However. It's not very accurate. He needs to work on that.

I don't think anyone's really worried about him not coming over to the NHL. I think it's more that we don't have great depth at LW and we think he could probably make the team this year and his development would probably be better if he came to the NHL/AHL for the future.

With that in mind I love his shot. I don't know about his accuracy because I don't watch a lot of his games, but most of the goals I see of his are straight snipes.

His development is probably best if he has one more year in Sweden. One extra year can make the difference between him being a good SEL player (Like he is now) and one of the best players in the league.

One more year of SEL time then he should hopefully be ready for the NHL. One more SEL year > AHL time IMO.

I think the dude said he could be better "if" he reaches his potential (we could have an existentialist discussion on that), but that he is more versatile- which I would take to mean more committed defensively- and possibly more physical- to go with his offensive abilities.

Sorry if I'm putting words in your mouth, KRM.
