I don't understand why people talk about Vaive getting honored. Is there any reason at all to retire Vaive's number besides the fact that he scored 50 two or three times in an era where that was relatively common.
If Phil Kessel scores fifty a couple times, in this era in which it's much more difficult, and the Leafs don't get anywhere in terms of winning, are people going to expect him to go to the rafters?
I mean I'm too young to have really watched Vaive, but I really don't hear anything about the guy besides the fact that he scored 50.
For those wanting to turn this into a "why didn't he waive his....." thing. Please go away.
Hey nothing wrong with that. Mats had the right to do what he wanted to do and say. The fans have the same right to criticize or not.
Glad to see that Mats will be honoured, he was a great Leaf. Things did not end the way anyone would have wanted it to but so be it. Hope he can stay involved with organization some how.
I like the Leafs' current system with the retired and honoured numbers. No need to change it.
I also like how Wilson doesn't let 14 be worn because of Keon even though it's not officially honoured (yet).
Ya, who knows how long professional hockey might go for?? They might go one day 100-200 years from now, all players will wear numbers in the 60s or 70s cause all the other numbers have been retired.
Stick with the honoured numbers policy, it lets us build on the legacy of each number.
7- Tim Horton, King Clancy, Gary Roberts
And to a poster who said Wilson doesnt let honoured numbers be wore, not exactly true. No.4, 9, have been wore by Finger and Armstrong
I was there for his 500th goal and FOR SURE GONNA BE THERE FOR THIS GAME!!! <3 SUNDIN ALL TIME FAV PLAYER!!! MATS SUNDIN MATS SUNDIN!!! SO ****** STOKED!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Great news one of the greatest leafs ever. Wore his heart on his sleeve for this team and city.. Anyone willing to talk bad abt him at all should be ashamed.. Can't wait to see... My favourite leaf of all time.. Really wish he had it in him.. needs a number one center.... He was great at faceoffs , that big powerforward, and consistent player.... Hall of famer for sure.. Maybe even first ballot.... GO Mats GO....

You have used up your periods for the rest of the year.
Honestly, it can't be said enough how classy he was. I always found it honourable that he didn't wanna waive his NTC and wanted to stay with the Leafs.
It was an honour to have Mats and Roy Halladay represent this city, both so classy and dominant.

Mats Sundin is definitely one of the greatest players to wear the Blue and White and I for one will be cheering him loudly, when his number is raised to the rafters, Mats is and will always be one of my favorite players of all time, he hopefully will be honoured by everyone.
I was hoping that the Leafs would offer him a scouting job, he is very well known and has a great following in Sweden and other European countries, he could persuade some young talent signing with us, rather than with another team.

Hahahah, you're like one of the most enthusiastic posters. Every time I see one of your posts I just hear someone screaming everything at the top of their lungs. Well your happy posts anyway.
awesome, hopefully he joins our franchise in someway or another hopefully we will win a stanley cup with him here and then he can just get that ring he wants.
Even though I thought Sundin's circumstances for refusing to leave and being a hypocrite left me with a bad opinion of him as a person and his character he does deserved to be honored.
My only complaint is, it's too soon.
Personally I wish the Leafs would honor others as well. Tucker deserves a night also.

You can't be serious. There are at least 25 players I would pick to put up there before Tucker. Half a point per game, and a career -86. Not a chance in hell I would put a mediocre player like Tucker beside Clark, Gilmour, Sundin, Sitler, etc.

If Tucker gets a night, pretty much the entire 1993 and 2002 rosters get a night as well...
