I guess Boosh will be the starter but have very short leash. Not really comfortable having either there. They better step up or this could very well be first round exit depending who they face.

If they don't even try to get a real starter next year then I'll loose all hope to this management. At the same time I can easily see them going with Leighton/Bobrovsky combo next year.

I'm half expecting that combination. Prepare the rage.

If the goaltending craps the bed in the playoffs I don't think Holmgren will be that dense but who knows..right now his strategy is looking dubious...

Yeah they were both pretty pathetic last night but I agree with one of the previous posters. That was one of the few awful games they have had all year. I hope Laviolette goes back to Bob tomorrow for a chance to rebound. Boucher certainly didn't earn the start tomorrow.

Thinking of the goal tending situation, I honestly thought in the summer Johan Backlund was going to compete for the starting job by the end of the season. Lol.

I wasn't the only one on this board either.

To the guys who understand the business end of the game a lot better then I.

In the Playoffs the Flyers will carry 3 net-minders. Is it impossible to think one of them will be Mikey? What's with re entry after the regular season? Payroll cap too high?

Just wondering for the business end of it thats all.

far as i understand it, for ML to come up he has to pass throu waivers again and some other team could snap him up for only 1/2 of his salary and the Flyers would still have to pay for the other 1/2 and they wouldnt even get him to play..

much as i wanna see ML come back, i dont see how that could happen. its kinda to big of a risk for management i bet.

I understand that part. Just wondered if it held true after the end of the regular season.

Whats worse, paying his his entire salary <dosen't count against our cap> to play for the Phantoms.... or pay 1/2 his salary <counts against our cap> to have another team take him off our hands

Obviously, being stuck with half his cap hit and not having him.

We can afford to burn money on a dead asset in the minors. We can't afford to burn cap space on a dead asset on another team.

Starter? No, that would have been to far from reality! But I was thinking that Backlund would at least be given the chance to compete for the backup job with boosh.
And by now his 2year contract extension just seems like another bonehead move.

Stubborn

I really hope that one of Boosh or Bob can get the job done somehow...but I still don't see why this guy called M.Leighton who backstopped this team to the finals last year is not even worth a try.

Maybe it's based on the same logic that some people where adopting to argue that Roloson is too old, Niemi is fraud, and Anderson is done earlier this saison. I would take each of the mentioned over our goalies right now!

And how about Ray Emery... Look him with the Ducks again yesterday. Why the Flyers did'nt give him a try.

No, it's based on the logic that Leighton is a terrible goaltender and got lucky last year.

And also on the logic that he will most definitely get claimed on re-entry and we can't afford that. At best, he's a slight upgrade (and I don't actually think he is)...but he's not worth the risk.

High risk, little reward. No point.

Bob will go again tonight

TPanoch says Bob will start vs Pens tonight - also he gave up 2 60-footers in practice. Yes, we talkin' 'bout practice.

Good for Laviolette, he needs to figure out if this kid is going to play himself into the starting role or whether they need to possibly take him out of the equation all together at this point. Sink or swim boy, sink or swim.

PLEASE NOTE:
Michael Leighton must clear re-entry waivers as long as the Flyers' season remains ongoing: regular season and playoffs. If claimed – and it is very likely that he would be – one-half of Leighton's $1.55 million salary (ie, $775,000) would be counted against the Flyers' cap space for both this year (pro-rated) and next year.

Whether Leighton is an upgrade over Bob/Boucher is moot. He would not, in all likelihood, reach the NHL roster and Paul Holmgren would have worsened his already touchy cap issue for next year.

I agree - no chance on Leighton. Any chance another team goes waiver/re-entry? IE.

- Dan Ellis
- Ray Emery
- J.S. Giguere
- Chris Mason

Any interest if a team waived them? Just curious if there is anyone on a non playoff team that is a UFA this year and may get waived that would interest the Flyers?

Personally, I say stick with what we have.

I don't believe they'd be eligible for playoffs for us, would they?

Cool - so anyone who picks up Leighton would be doing so for next year? I did not know that.
