It's been awhile since a regular season game has had me nervous. This game and Dallas on Saturday are freaking humongous games. I'm going to be a nervous wreck. It's going to be like watching a playoff game and the players are going to play like it too. Should be some good hockey to watch at least.
How many times as preds fans have we been in exactly this situation?? At home, playing teams right behind us, late in the season... our skates are on their necks... win these next two games in regulation and the chances of either of these two teams catching us becomes miniscule... lose, and we will be back out of a playoff spot and will likely have to go 5-1 the rest of the way to have any shot.
Preds history in these type of games is decidedly mixed, with a tilt toward underperforming.
Heres hoping Captain Weber has the boys flying tonight. Ducks are on the 2nd of BTBs.... there should be no excuse for not outhustling these guys
anyone know which goalie we will be facing tonight?
well, I hope there is some rust. Anaheim expended a ton of effort last night. They will come out hard for a good ten min and then have a ten minute jump later in the game. We score a couple early, they may well stop playing.
With this group I'm actually beginning to feel MORE comfortable with these high-stakes games against good teams. As has been mentioned before I'm sure (I know for a fact it was discussed briefly between 303 and myself) this team looks its best when it has to dig every minute of the game. In the Edmonton game we could have continued applying the pressure we found after the first four minutes or so, but instead we got comfortable with that 2 goal lead. The result was a game more than half of which was played by a team that more than half of which was hardly even trying. Sloppy plays nearly nipped us in the ass that game.
So tonight we HAVE to tighten up. We have to stick to our aggressive style. Stay in their faces all night. Play the puck possession game. They have very shaky goaltending, so let's pepper the net with shots from everywhere. The Legwand and Erat line will probably be the one to carry us tonight, because if anything watching these two play over the years has taught me it's that they thrive on this playoff stretch.
Once again. Just freakin' win
edit: Looks like Hiller has been activated from IR. I'm not sure if he's going to be in net. (probably would've helped had I read the entire thread instead of just a few posts haha) They have three goalies active on their roster now. I hate to be this way, but part of me hopes they start Hiller and he isn't quite ready. I feel bad for the guy, but we need the points worse than they do as far as I'm concerned...
I visited the Ducks board and educated them on vertigo a little bit because of hiller.
They think Hiller plays tonight. If so I suspect he might be a bit tentative and the preds game plan should be to pepper him with shots early and often, with lots of lateral puck movement since a person with an inner problem will have trouble tracking the puck from side to side.
