Markov Contract? - Team 990

Just heard per Tony Marinaro/Team 990 that PG approached the Markov camp today with a 1yr contract. Donny Meehan countered with a 3yr deal. No solid details on the value but Tony said its around the same as his current contract (5.75).

The Canadiens want Markov back and he wants to be back. Something should get signed soon!

RDS with the same source, isn't kinda risky to offer 5.75 for 3 yrs without knowing if his knee can hold that long?

It's maybe a little less, like 5M$ per year...

It's probably less with bonuses.

If you play 60+ games you get X amount of money.

You think he might agree to 4.5-4-8 for 3 years?

Maybe I'm wrong but I think you can only add bonuses for entry level contracts or 35+ contracts... Markov is 32-33

That's what I was thinking. No way do we sign him for more than 1 yr,unless he plays X amount of games (70 imo),then an option kicks in with a higher salary.Enough of overpaying these players. If he doesn't come back to where he was,cut him.

Sign him for 3 years right away same price , the risk of him getting injured is less horrible than the contract of healthy gomez , cammalleri and gionta anyway.

If Markov is playing 60 games average which could very well happens , this will be one of the best contract.

you just can't let him go away , sign this man , he is awesome.

If it's more than one year, it better be at a really reduced rate.

At 5.75 there can't really be much risk if his knee doesn't
hold up. S o we should sigh him for as long as possible at that
price. After all, the worst case scenerio is we are forced to buy
him out. This would cost a little less than 2.00 in cap space
per year.Even this risk is avoided with a very front loaded
contract. Because that would encourage him to retire if he
can't play effectively.
The only real risk is in sighing him to only one year. Then
the team takes the risk during his comeback year, but is stuck
trying to resign him if he is really successful

I'd do 1-2 years at 5.5M and 3 years at 5M.

I for one think he'll be fine going forward, maybe I'm being too optimistic. I am just dying to see what our team can look like with both Markov and Subban playing dominant hockey.

Sign him to 5 years I say.

Insurance covers it if he gets hurt again and he'd be dropped from the cap for any longterm injury anyway.

His knee will be fine if the doctors say so.

No brainer. This team goes to another level with him in the lineup.

at least 3 years please , I don't even want to think about Markov contracts anymore , so just get it done and my mind will be in peace.

Even if the worst happens and he plays 20 games a season , the risk was worth it , because Markov is worth it if healthy , it's gamble , a good one , unlinke the gamle taken on the small 3 that start to see the downside and that it's -ev

For the insurance compagny... no the team...

5,75mil is a bit steep on the cap... I'd like something arounf 15/3...

Anyways... just the idea that they might be negociating is excellent news.

If he wants 3 years he should take a pay cut, 5mil/year for 3 years sounds alright

Touché.

So, the contract better be low, then if it's 3 years.

RDS says that Meehan denies it... say they will start negociations after the season's end.
