I'd like to hear the story behind this one...if the rangers let him walk on purpose or if they tried to sign him but he wanted to go elsewhere, where he didn't have to worry about lundqvist and montoya breathing down his neck
if we had not already sign chris holt he is used to facing lost of shots in college and he can do the same this year in hartford let motoya have a quality oppenet to compeet with in harford . and we can sign blackburn to charlotte checkers or the wolfpack. ABSOULETY no dunham
Not a big loss to me. I was looking at Fish's site and I think they have Betts and Nycholat up for grabs too. There are a lot of goalies. We could take a serious look at Lundquist or Montoya in training camp and if it looks like one could split with the Rangers go that way. If not there will be other goalies as good or better than Labarbera. There's a big list of them in free agents.
If Lundqvist is going to get real time in NY, fine. If he is going to play 20 games to Weekes's 60, than I'd rather leave Lundqvist and Montoya in Hartford to split time and sign a back-up. However, if Lundqvist is as good as I have heard, he will be the #1 by Christmas with Montoya as trade bait.
i don't see us trading Montoya anytime soon. even if lundquist is the man at the Garden, Montoya is still most likely a couple of seasons away from being ready for prime time. it would be foolish to trade him during the next couple of years...unless the deal was very one sided. it's a great problem to have 2 #1 netminders...let's hope it happens.
Labarbera was trash. THe guy is no NHL goalie, IMO. THe bad news is we coulda played him in 25 games and realistically only had a shot at winning about 5, so there goes our shot at Kessel next year. The good news is we never have to watch this sieve suite up for the Rangers again. THe really bad news is he'll turn into Kiprusoff and make me look like an ass.
