Better than smokes, but I refuse to harm my body with drugs that will eat up my cash and harm my body.

Unless the tastes that much better, I'll stick to the more potent chewing tobacco.

Few misconceptions here:

There are a few different types of smokeless tobacco. Chewing tobacco is often considered to be either "dipping tobacco" or "chewing tobacco". Actual chewing tobacco are brands like Redman in which you put it in the side of your gum and chew it once in awhile and you draw out the nicotine. Dipping tobacco is similar to snus in which you place under your bottom lip (or upper, or both) and the fiberglass in chew cuts into your lip and into your blood stream. Brands of dipping tobacco are Skoal, Copenhagen, Grizzly, etc. Snus is similar to dipping tobacco in application, but is apparently less harmful than chew or dip. A full tin of dipping tobacco is roughly equal to 60 cigarettes. I'm not sure the number in most chewing tobacco but I believe it is about the same. Snus comes in pouches much like Dipping tobacco brands like Skoal have produced sub brand known as Bandits.

As for the question: No, I haven't tried it. They don't sell it anywhere in my city, I don't believe. Dipping tobacco is quite expensive as well about 16 bucks for an American sized tin and Redman is roughly the same. If snus is that much cheaper I'll look into it.

I did it once or twice, never felt anything from it so I rendered it pointless

Then i started ordering from sweden. Much better taste, quality, and the nicotine level per pouch is more comparable to a single cigarette.

i've since quit smoking.
i snus about 3 pouches a day. I used to smoke a pack in about 4 days.
When i get past customs, the cost is about $3.75 per can of 24 portions (=~24 cigarettes). When customs hits me, it's about $5 a can.
If i order online on a monday or tuesday, i'll usually receive the package from sweden by friday.
Portions snus is for girls

Isn't SNUS the stuff where you don't have to spit?

Correct.

Snus kills your gums, but is relatively healthier than smoking cigarettes.

Fiberglass in chew is a myth. But there's a million other health reasons as why not to dip.

I like snus as a change of pace from chew every now and then because you don't have to spit, which comes in handy in certain situations.

Yeah, that is a myth actually. I've chewed for 6 years and my gums got pretty ripped up from it so I assumed it to be true. Pretty funny considering that I tried to squash some misconceptions yet I put one in there myself.

why are people calling it "snus". i've never once heard it been called that, and a large portion of my friends are fire fighters who use chewing tobacco.

it's simply referred to as dip or chew, unless this is something different.

Snus isn't dip or chew.. kind of the point of the thread.

That doesn't really make it different, though. Bandits (dipping tobacco) comes in pouches, and I have placed my Skoal tins in the fridge to keep it fresh. It's more about the actual tobacco leaves that make it different.

I have never tried chewing tobacco or anything of the sort. I prefer to keep my mouth minty fresh, and I think the taste and odour would make me a little queasy :/

*bump*

Nice topic, I do snus(well I'm from Sweden I don't really have a choice )

The reason for the bump is that i wonder if snus have entered the market or is it just not catching on in NA?

Snus is still quite popular in Finland, even though it hasn't been for sale for over 15 years now. Although I don't use snus actively, I wish EU would get their heads out of their ***** and legalize it again. FAR more healthier option for cigarettes.

And the most important thing, it doesn't hurt anybody else like second-hand smoking and it doesn't smell smell.

But not when using, like smoking does.

Do Finns have to import from Sweden?

It indeed is, but it doesn't make it less harmful.
