I was just doing some googling and it seems to me, that unless Kings embellished the truth a lot, 6 weeks means it's the simplest possible broken ankle, no complications. The bones should heal in 5-6 weeks if I am not mistaken and then it's just a matter of when it's ready for full weight (225, ouch) and every day activity (professional ice hockey, ouch).
Let's try to be realistic here - there is close to zero chance for Kopitar to join before the end of May is it? I don't have experience with broken ankles or legs so I really have no clue.
So did Lebrun really say no call ups and Westy will be in? I'm sitting here laughing..

Since I wasn't expecting a cup run this season even with Kopitar it's hardly the end of the world. Kopitar's long term health and development are much more important. In the long run this can be a positive for some of the other young forwards on the team.

All they've said is "at least 6 weeks" and that they'll know more when he goes in for x-rays and MRIs.
Some people are seriously out to lunch and you got it right though. Acting as though this isn't an absolutely HUGE blow to this team right now is ridiculous. We might rag on Anze for a lot of things but the system runs through him for the most part. It's as bad as it can get this time of year but it's good for Anze in the sense that he should recover fully.
I had to go through all the threads and posts that I could before I came back to ask who exactly is saying that losing Kopi isn't a major blow to our team? I couldn't find one poster who didn't think that losing him was a massive problem.
Can you show me an example because honestly, I can't find one.
You never know what management is thinking, but of those I could only see either Zeiler or Elkins get a call up.
On the other hand, when I saw Anze get hurt my first thought was - time for Trevor to step it up even more.
And, I'm thinking King will get called up...but, that's just me.
With Kopitar out for the year, I would expect another player to get the letter. Handzus makes sense because he's an UFA and Kopitar will be back in camp.
Doughty would be an interesting choice for the playoffs. See how he reacts to the added responsibility.
