Now that it's on OT I'm actually going for Calgary. Even with two points they have a tough road to get in. If LA only gets one we can hop over them tomorrow.
impact involving teams we are fighting with---Chicago-Bolland still has concussion symptoms and Sharp may have a serious knee injury (seeking more opinions). they just added a 20 year old swedish center to plug in their lineup. Down the middle they have Toews, Frolik, this kruger kid and who knows now. Sharps injury could sink them.chicago has 3 games with detroit, one with boston, one with tampa and one with montreal in their last 10 games here. interesting no doubt.
saying that a little sked analysis here-
Phoenix looks in good shape with 89 points and 7 of 9 at home still. t
alked about chicago.
LA at 87 points 2 games with SJ, two games with ANA, game at VAN and home vs PHO and DAL
Anaheim at 86 on a three game roadie now. Dallas tomorrow and us Thursday. then onto chicago and still with 2 games vs SJ and LA.
Dallas is finishing a 7 game homestand. 5 game roadie that includes stops at us pho, sj, la, and ana. they close with a b2b vs colorado and then minny.
calgary is on a roadie now with a stop at sj left. games vs ANA and VAN are their toughies, but games left are working against them.
tonight we root for STL over PHO, and NAS over EDM. nothing else really matters.
This is what annoys me most. Every time there's a chance to get a little separation with one team getting a regulation win and another getting no points it always seems that the game goes to overtime.
Vancouver beats Detroit 2-1 in regulation.
Chicago easily beats Florida 4-0.
Stars give up a lead late in the third and lose in OT.
Sharks currently leads Calgary.
Wow. Marleau ties the game with a little over 3 minutes left. Thornton takes a stupid penalty and the Kings score on the power play with 1:42 left. The Sharks then get desperate on a faceoff outside the zone with 14 seconds left, they go into the zone the puck has a chance to be cleared twice, the Sharks somehow keep it in, throw it towards the net where it goes off a bunch of sticks and goes right to Marleau waiting with an open net and he buries it with 3.2 seconds left.
Not the best possible result, but there's a chance that the Kings only get a point.
Strange how every single game between two Western-conference playoff-contending rival teams seems to be going into OT... Kings and Sharks, Ducks and Stars, Kings and Flames, Ducks and Flames, Ducks and Kings... This would be pretty damn frustrating if we weren't winning every game lately.
I'm rooting for Chicago tonight, not Anaheim. A Chicago win in regulation against Anaheim hurts their chances of making the playoffs a lot more than an Anaheim win would hurt Chicago's chances. Chicago has two games in hand on us and are only two points behind, while Anaheim is three points behind but only has one game in hand. I'd rather make sure the Ducks stay as far back as possible rather than having both teams constantly hot on our heels. Since we already have a nice cushion on Calgary we only need one more team to falter as well.
Then we'll cheer for Colorado, Anaheim, Edmonton, San Jose.
I'm also pulling for Chicago over the Ducks. Try to get another team behind us. Then hopefully Chicago fades down the stretch, sounds like they're dinged up. Unless of course the Preds win out or close to it, in which case I'd want Chicago to beat Detroit three times, and lose their others...
But, by far the biggest thing, BEAT DALLAS! WHOO, GO PREDS!
The playoff chance page shows the biggest games in the West as Nashville/Dallas and Chicago/Anaheim. If the Ducks win in Regulation they show a 74% chance of making the playoffs, but if they lose to Chicago, they show them with just under a 50% chance. Same with Dallas, if we beat them in regulation, they also drop to just under 50% chance, if they get one point, they jump to almost 60 percent, and if they win, they are up into the low 70s.
Our chances go as high as about 96% with a win, down to as low as about 82% with a loss in Regulation. Same with Chicago.
We're only a point behind the Coyotes now, same amount of games played. Tied with the Kings, but they have a game in hand, so we're a bit behind them. We are slightly ahead of the Blackhawks now I guess, up by 4 points on them, while they have three games in hand on us.

They hadn't updated the standings yet. Blackhawks are 4 points behind us with 2 games in hand. Coyotes now down 3 with less than 5 minutes left so we will be 1 point behind them with 1 game in hand.

Oh, most excellent!
NHL usually updates so quickly after a game, I didn't realize that.
