Claude Giroux

how do you like Giroux' play this season?

i noticed he's playing ~2min on the PK per game and landing some hits .. facts that came a little bit surprising to me, as i had him in mind as a relatively soft player ...

could he become a similar player to mike richards?

Absolutely not.

Think Hobo-man's Peter Forsberg

Giroux is far from a soft player. He goes into corners, he takes hits and he gives hits. His biggest asset in terms of physical play is that he knows how to slide off hits. Of note, during his phenomenal QMJHL playoff run, he played most of that playoff year with a dislocated shoulder and broken hand, so that should tell you just how tough he really is......

Giroux as soft? Really? Maybe it's just me but I think of G as one of the grittier players on the team.

Have you never seen Giroux play before?

How on earth can anyone think he's soft?

Giroux is far from soft. He might even be one of our most physical guys all season.

Giroux isn't soft. He's a really solid hitter, and can absorb impact from hits very well.

I saw someone once call him "lazy" on the main boards. I sometimes wonder if people just watch his highlight reels and assume he's one-dimensional.

Even during his rookie season, he was arguably the Flyers' most physical player in their short playoff stint. He even had a Gordie Howe hattrick, and won the fight.

Roo has:
unbelievable sight
great balance
great agility
high energy level
and an understanding of how to protect himself (like #99)

these add up to make him an incredibly effective grinder/two way player when he wants to be (sometimes he'd rather deke or pass...I agree w/ pronger that he should dump/chase more b/c hes amazing at it!)
dont get me wrong though, despite his toughness and incredibly competitive nature (suuuuuuuch a good asset for a hardworking high potential young NHLer to have!) I fear that one of these days he's going to get a really harsh boarding or crippling hit (simply due to his size, and willingness to go into the dirty areas)

it kind of reminds me of when they run d'sean jackson through the middle...HES GONNA GET KILLED ONE OF THESE DAYS.

G is the king of 'close calls' and almost always slips away unscathed/or better off than the other guy, but i feel like one of these days he could be on the receiving end big time

If he's not already, Giroux will be our best player in 12 months time.

I agree but watch out for the fallout. He has some Clarkie in him that is for sure and that is always a good thing.

Giroux will be one of the top 10 players in this league next year. I have absolutly no doubt about that. That man has some seriously special skills, with a work horse effort. We are so lucky that some bum was taken before him in the draft.

Thank the ny rags. I was speaking with some rag fans when they were in town, Believe me when I tell you they wished they had their pick back to do again.

He reminds me more of Clarke than Richards does. Could be the crazy hair, but Giroux has a serious mean streak that he's not afraid to show.

I don't know guys. I think top ten in the league next year is expecting a lot. The league is big, and most teams have a player on them who is nearly as good as Giroux is or better. Top thirty maybe.

Right now he is only in the top 3 or 5 on his team.

Pronger, Timonen, Carter, Richards, Giroux in no particular order.

Agreed. At times, I get the impression that Richie is barely trying. I wish he'd get a little more angry in the face off circle.

I honestly think that Giroux will be far and above the best player on this team next year. Call me crazy, but the guy has some serious drive.

By the way, Giroux is now T-11 in the league in points and 10th in assists among forwards.

All this for a kid we're supposed to be over-rating.
