The Miller, Gerbe, Vanek show ...

G ... Miller with another shutout, Vanek with a goal ... Finally
Gerbe continues his role, and roll

B ... Grier getting hurt, 2nd period was poor (mostly)

U ... Devils energy wasn't close to the Sabres

This team lives and dies with Miller and Vanek.

Live long, Sabres

Good:

Miller with another shutout
Vanek getting off the schnide
Gerbe potting another one
Pretty good defensive effort all game long
Getting some help out of town, with Carolina losing and Montreal likely to lose
Only 2 behind the Habs all of a sudden

Bad:

Thanks for the help, Boston

Ugly:

Ilya Kovalchuk

I did NOT like Weber's bad pass to Kovy in the slot, he continues to make some VERY risky passes in his own zone and he needs to stop doing that before it costs his team dearly. Other than that, he played an awesome game! I especially liked his clean yet punishing hit and his excellent shot block off the rush.

Miller was awesome, but I do not like the way he leaves his post to kind of prvent a bad angle rebound chance. he takes himself too far away from the net and it doesn't seem necessary to do that. It's weird, he's like the only goalie in the league that does that and sometimes he gets burned like in a bruins game earlier this year. Still, sweet shut out!

Ennis is tremendous, and Connolly was awesome out working that guy off the face-off that lead too Vanek's goal! Glad too see him score one!

Great game, 5 point lead over the Canes! Keep the great play and the wins coming! The real season is about to begin!

Great game all around. NJ gave us everything they had, and the Sabres withstood. If Leopold is going to be out for the rest of the season+ ... then this guy has earned a shot.

So he can sit in the pressbox? I don't see a call-up unless somebody else gets hurt.

Good
-Miller getting his deserved shutout.
-Vanek finally potting one.
-Canes, Habslosing.
-I thought Grier and Nieds had good games.

Bad
-2nd period was fairly weak.
-Weber with that horrible pass to Kovalchuk (?). The guy tries to clear the puck through the middle too much.
-PP was ugly. As someone mentioned I too wouldn't mind Gragnani.

Ugly
-Nothing

Agree with jflory. They aren't going to call up anybody unless someone else gets hurt.

I just saw the blue font and thought, oh, that reminds me of Jade. Then I looked to the left and it made me laugh.

The first call would indeed be Grags, but until/unless someone else gets hurt, it's not happening.

Morrison hasn't been impressing me of late, and Weber over-extending his game usually leads to goals against. MAG replaces Leo's offense and can contribute on the PP.

If Buffalo is going to make a playoff run, there will be injuries along the way.

We're looking pretty good at the right time. Good breakouts, possession, and defensive coverage for the most part. Decent number of chances, solid goaltending, its all there right now.

Not sure if anyone cares or was keeping track, but the win puts us over "real" .500 (total wins of all kinds > total losses of all kinds) for the first time since after game 1.

Good:
- Miller with another shutout. Since that awful end to the Preds game he's been absolutely lights out.
- Vanek getting the monkey off his back. Hopefully he can keep it that way. Also I know he doesn't make the big bucks to be a defensive forward but he had some great hustle getting back into his zone, and had some pretty good defensive plays.
- Gerbe as usual breaking teams' brains with what it is doing out there. I am so happy that I am not the GM as I was ready to trade him in the beginning of the season.
- 4 pts on the weekend. I know I personally didn't think that was an option.
- EVERYONE ELSE GOING DOWN AND GOING DOWN HARD!

Bad:
- 2nd period was meh. Miller bailed them out a few more times that I would personally be comfortable with. The good news is he was spot on and got the shut-out so whatever!
- Weber continues to make some of the most ill advised passes. It has already cost him once, hopefully it wont later.

Ugly:
- Adam Mair might be the most boring person alive. Rob Ray's interview with him was just a garble of under his breath mumbling. I know that all hockey interviews are some permutation of "skate hard," "getting pucks to the net," and "getting traffic around the net." But at least speak up!

Loved the first period -- at one point the Sabres had a 9-1 shot advantage (and a 1-0 goal advantage). Boyes fit right in nicely with Gerbe and Gaustad.

Loved Miller in the second period. Some rougher edges on the defensive game, he was large.

Also liked the bit on Vanek having the kids in from the Boys and Girls Clubs. Nice job Tom!

Good to see Miller back on form for the playoffs. . . the last thing you need for the postseason is a goalie with a fragile psyche.

Good: Dominic Moore finally helps the Sabres with the GWG in the Bolts/Canes game.
