Remaining Games

I have decided to look at the standings and got the worst 5 teams in the west and worst 7 teams in the east... I figure with the wild loss tonight they should just tank the remaining 7 games and could end up with a good draft spot.....

W - 30th EDM - 8 games left / vs LA, @ MIN, @ VAN, vs VAN, @ CGY, vs MIN, @ COL - 56 pts
W - 29th COL - 8 games left / @ ANA, vs NSH, @ PHO, vs CGY, @ STL, @ DAL, vs DAL, vs EDM - 64 pts
E - 28th OTT - 7 games left / @ ATL, @ TB, @ FLA, vs TOR, vs PHI, vs MTL, @ BOS - 67pts
E - 27th FLA - 7 games left / @ PIT, @ CBS, vs OTT, vs PIT, @ WSH, @ TB, vs WSH - 68pts
E - 26th NYI - 6 games left / @ NJ, @ NYR, vs CAR, @ BOS, vs PIT, @ PHI - 70pts
E - 25th NJ - 7 games left / vs NYI, vs PHI, vs MTL, @ PIT, vs TOR, @ NYR, vs BOS - 73pts
E - 24th ATL - 8 games left / vs OTT, @ MTL, @ PHI, @ BOS, @ NSH, @ NYR, @ CAR, vs PIT - 74pts
T - E - 23rd TOR - 6 games left / vs BUF, @ BOS, @ OTT, vs WSH, @ NJ, vs MTL - 78pts
T - W - 23rd MIN - 7 games left / @ STL, vs EDM, vs TB, @ DET, @ VAN, @ EDM, vs DAL - 78pts
E - 22nd CAR - 7 games left / @ WSH, vs MTL, @ NYI, vs BUF, vs DET, @ ATL, vs TB - CAR

As you can see if the season were to end today we would end up with 9th overall, with 3 weeks left in the season anything can pretty much happen in the rest of the season anyone can beat anyone... The last 3 teams will be battling each other for that spot for the lottery... I dont think NYI can catch up to us in pts so the worst we can do is NJ and ATL surpassing us and we end up with maybe 6th overall. That is still 3 spots moving up and getting a better draft pick... I havn't seen this years draft class so i donno if its a strong or weak draft but would it be even worth it to tank the last 7 games...

Pretty sure the team has kind of already made this decision for us. Sorry, Burns4Norris.

I don't like seeing this type of effort from my favorite team. But given the play every single member of the team has been displaying, I have a hard time believing they'll win much of anything the rest of the way. Hoping for a tank job really isn't needed.

You forgot St. Louis and Columbus. Because of the tiebreakers the Wild would be picking 11th if the season were to end right now.

With the way things are going, I can see the Blues, Blue Jackets, and Leafs passing the Wild in the standings but dont see much of a chance for ATL or NJ to catch them. Worst case i see them picking 12th and best case would be 8th.

With Thrashers beating Ottawa today they move to 76 pts so it is quite possible Thrashers could pass the wild in the standings

you think you can handle tanking if it entails games like Montreal and last night against STL?

Columbus is tanking as bad as we are

But we need to fall below Columbus, Toronto, St. Loius, and Atlanta.

That would put us at #7.

I don't see us falling below New Jersey unless we lose every remaining game, which seems statistically very improbable. Although, our remaining games are against difficult opponents or St Loius and the Edmonton, who's youth are gearing up for next year.

If the Wild tank and nobody's around to see it, did it actually happen?

Yeah, but look at the recent trends too. The Wild have moved up like 4 points in the last 10 games.

If things remain the same, we will finish around 82 points. Which might be below Columbus, Maple Leafs, Atlanta, and St. Louis.

The bigger hurt is not having a high 2nd round pick.

There is still going to be some real talent at that point in the draft.
