no point in further discussing the Caps playoff run. i do remember it, and feel Kolzig was the major part of that run...and if others don't that's cool.
i shouldn't have said i KNOW it was Kolzig, cause i don't, so my bad. the only people who ever actually KNOW who is behind the madness on a team are the players. if they don't like a system a coach has, or if a system is not present, they'll never say that anyways.
the Leafs might have missed the playoffs this season because Wilson's system didn't suit the team, or because he doesn't really have a system, or maybe he teaches a fantastic system and our team was just not talented enough to execute it...who knows. only the players know, and they'll probably never say.
all we know about the Leafs is this...
- we have a lot less talent than a lot of other teams.
- our special teams were absolutely atrocious.
- our goaltending, other than the late run by Reims, was poor.
- we almost ALWAYS started poorly, and gave up the first goal.
- the effort was there more times than not, but execution wasn't always there.
- i've never seen a player improve more over the span of a year or two than Grabovski has.
there are probably more points i'm missing but oh well. the thing is, other than a few like goaltending and lack of talent, it's hard to say whether or not those are coaching errors, or player errors.
getting off to poor starts could be a coaching issue (not getting them motivated) or a player issue. not sure. same goes for most of the other points.
Half of our NHL squad and it's starting goalie all came up through Eakins. Their play, commitment to defense and team play should be a testament to Eakins and his staffs coaching ability. There have been a lot of media folks giving Wilson and his staff credit for turning this monster team around, and I give them credit for sticking with guys like Schenn and Grabo after they each had horrible years previous. But the new guys have proven to be the difference, and it's not due to Wilson's coaching in my opinion.
You give him credit for sticking with a 20 year old defence men where a case can be argued he was brought up 2 quickly? Don't tell me in a round about way that you would have gave up on Schenn already? lol
I spent yesterday at Ricoh watching Eakins and his team. You missed the point. I didn't say that Wilson deserves NONE of the credit, what I am saying is that half of this team was coached in the AHL. And I think Eakins deserves as much credit as Ronnie. Maybe you can say Allaire as well.
Ron Wilson is a terrible coach, I never liked him, nor did I sing his praise since we started winning. Every game there's something that Ron does that baffles the mind. Bad pairings, mismatched D/Forward core, lack of timeouts. The guy spends more time looking at the iPad then talking to his troops.
lol. The goalie coach and the minor team coach deserve credit for the teams successes. Is that what your selling? Thats truly ********
These guys (exception to Kadri) are fillers...The only Marlie that's made a significant impact is Reimer and I doubt that Eakins can take much credit for that...Despite disagreeing with you that Eakins deserves more credit, I still don't like Wilson and I don't believe he deserves much credit. But to say that Dallas Eakins inadvertently turned the Leafs around is a bit of a stretch...
